Chapter 10

Last week, a woman came to town, and she was a genius engineer. Her name was, "Kris." Bernard and his friends had met her first and made Lalita and Diego go with them to see her. You really insisted on staying home that day because you felt nauseous, but they forced you to go. And through your sickness and heavy headache you had to suck it up and go. And that's how you appeared in Signora Kris's backyard. You were sitting at a table in her backyard and doing your best to smile and look well. You sat and watched Kris's mechanical robot soldier, walk back and forth as Kris brought a fresh batch of cookies for everyone.

"Wow. Unbelievable!"

Diego said to himself as he stared at the robot in boredom. 

"He has a clockwork mechanism inside of him, unbelievable!"

You looked at the machine slowly and felt yourself about to faint, but you continued to stay awake. It would bother others if they knew you were sick, right?

"See? I said that it's cool!"

You heard Bernard yelp with excitement and then go into a sudden whisper with Diego. 

"Yeah, I know! It's amazing right?"

Kris said from behind you. From the side, you could see Gabriel and his soldiers riding their horses to Kris's house. You, Lalita and Diego stood up and faced Lieutenant Gabriel. 

"Now, look who came here!"

You sarcastically asked the people around you. Diego and Lalita smiled at your usual sarcastic behavior. But now was not the time. 

"Nice to see you here, Senorita Lalita! Have you also come here to see this mechanical toy?"

Lalita turned around her head and refused to even look at him. You stared at Gabriel with the "seriously" face. Cause obviously he didn't even know how to flirt with a girl properly. The Lieutenant ignored you and Diego completely, while going out towards the mechanical soldier.

"So, this is it?" 

He asked while looking at the giant mechanical soldier that held an axe in his hands. The soldier got faster in his movements and walked up to the Lieutenant, causing him to retreat and fall over at the same time. The soldier moved his giant metal feet over the ground and was about to step on Gabriel's head with his metal feet. But he barely dodged. Everyone started laughing, since no one ever saw him in such vulnerable state before. The soldier kept on moving and walked away, while Gabriel sat there like a little child, pouting about how it's not fair to attack a military officer.

"Hey! What's so funny!?"

Gabriel yelled at all of you as you turned to the side and stopped laughing with the others. 

"Lieutenant, it's just a toy!"

Bernard explained to the angered Lieutenant. 

"What! Is it still funny to you!?"

The he turned your direction and pointed a finger at you. 

"And you were laughing to you witch!"

You swayed your head and denied it.

"No, sir. I was laughing about something totally different."

That moment, Gabriel swiftly turned around to look right into Kris's face. 

"What do you need here?"

She sternly asked.

"Are you the owner of this stupid mechanism!?"

The Lieutenant angerly asked the woman.

"Yes. Exactly. I made Max myself. And what about it?"

The Lieutenant stood up and straightened himself up.
