You couldn't wait for Sella and Lamon to take you to England. You wanted to finally see them again and the castle Sella told you about in her letters. You didn't send her a reply since she wouldn't receive the letter anyway and what can you say to her except for sitting around and waiting for her to come and get you. But now was not the time to think about that. You were at the town square watching the army soldiers bring in a group of men tied up in a wagon. You heard from Diego that the people there were Diego's old friends, which made you even more worried for them and what would happen to them. You heard explosions earlier which you could guess were explosions that the army caused to get the Golden Tigers out of their hiding areas. You listened to the Commander brainwashing everyone on the spot with his false accusations against the Golden Tigers, and then announce that they'll be executed the next morning. Diego and Lalita were both very intimidated and you tried figuring out a way out of this. After all, even Diego said that Zorro can't save them. Although, what can you do alone? As soon as the Commander and his soldiers took away the leaders of the Golden Tigers, Gonzalez appeared with an announcement board.
"And now, for any information on Zorro, you will receive 5 gold coins. 5 gold coins for information on the hiding spots of any rebels. And, if anyone hides or protects any rebels or Zorro himself, will be executed and all their property will be taken away from them."
After that, the people couldn't hold back their frustration and decided to riot against the new rules and the execution of the Golden Tigers causing Gonzalez to quickly escape the scene with his people. Once the commotion was over, you and Lalita went home while Diego and Bernard stayed out in town for a little longer. Lalita and you went to Diego's house and surprisingly met Lalita's parents already there.
"What are they doing here?"
You whispered in Lalita's ear. She shrugged.
"I have no idea either."
She whispered back. Although, shortly after, you figured out why they came to Diego's house.
"You're engaged?"
You asked Lalita while almost dropping your cup of tea.
"I thought you liked Diego."
Lalita got a little flustered and put some hair behind her ear.
"Well, Diego didn't want to propose for a long time so we found Lalita a different husband. After all, it's so hard having such a nice daughter!"
Lalita's dad interrupted your conversation and started laughing along to his wife's jokes and comments. After a couple more minutes, you excused yourself from the dining table and left out the main doors to the stairs that led to your room. You noticed that it was dark outside already and you were starting to get a little worried for Diego and Bernard, wondering if they got home safely. But luckily, you didn't have to worry anymore. After all, once you opened the front doors, Diego was standing behind the doors and listening. Although, when you noticed him, he quickly turned around and left without even glancing at you. That night, you had a hard time sleeping. You should've been happy that Lalita isn't getting married to Diego and you still have a chance with him, but it hurts you to see Diego so depressed. He didn't have dinner and didn't leave his room since he heard that Lalita is going to get married to someone else. That night was just as restless for you as it was for Diego. You closed your eyes and pulled your blanket over yourself, trying to fall asleep when you heard a horse neigh in the distance. You got up and looked out your window to see a white horse in the front yard. You pulled aside the curtains and opened the window, leaning forward to see the horse closer. It was truly Zorro's horse, "Viento." In the dark, you noticed a dark figure climbing the horse and you recognized it as Zorro. From afar, Zorro noticed you and landed his gaze on you. You smiled and gave him a thumbs-up. With that, he raced away like the wind on his horse and you closed your window to head to bed again. In the morning, you woke up due to hearing loud explosions not far away from the Von Vega mansion. You rose quickly and looked out your window and saw three huge cannons explode to pieces in the distance. You smiled knowing that those were the cannons that the army bought to have all of California trembling in fear. Zorro managed to destroy those symbols of war and fear. No Diego did.
