Ammonium Nitrate was an explosive material that you could use in pipe bombs. Charlie knew this because his father had taught him so from a young age. His father had been a history major, and so he constantly tuned into the history channel. This was how he got his nickname, from Charles Guiteau, who claimed that it was his divine right to a federal job, and then proceeded to kill to obtain what was rightfully his. He went to prison as well, just like Charlie currently.
Charlie recalled this tv segment on terrorists throughout history as well as weapons they would use. The one that stuck out in his mind was the pipe bomb, where you built a bomb within a pipe. Ammonium nitrate was a well known explosive that could be found in household items such as ice packs.
Now, if we fast forward to the present day, Dawn of the fourth day, Charlie sat in the crawl space, perfecting his bomb that he would detonate during the showdown between Skinner & Rush. Dad wanted him to do this, and even though he wasn't entirely sure why, he always listened to his dad.
Charlie had managed to make brass caps out of the metallic water bottle lids, and he had tied them up with coil that wrapped around the pipe. He would have to hold the bomb, and that was going to be just fine. Charlie would be fine, Daddy told him so. It was his divine right to survive such explosives.
Charlie was now thankful that he had snatched those ice packs from the cafeteria fridge a few days prior. He knew they would come in handy. The lead wire he had retrieved from the oven was in the pipe near the ammonium nitrate, which he would light with a match and cause the explosion. Charlie grinned. Daddy would be proud. Very, very proud.
