*Prom Night*
It's prom night. Amy has gone to get Sam, checking her out of rehab for the night.
"Luke," the principal says walking towards me.
"Yes, Mr. Eden?" I ask, standing straight.
"Your a good boy," he pats my shoulder, requesting a hand shake.
I shake his hand and smile. "Thank you."
"I remember the time, or should I say times, you two came into my office, then detention. You couldn't stand each other. Now, you're planning to marry her?"
"I am hoping to. I'm planning to ask her tonight, right before midnight strikes." I shove my hands in my front pockets.
"I wish you the best, son. You better run and get dressed while we get organized. It's all taken care of, don't worry."
"Thanks, Mr. Eden." I say before running off.
It's nearing 8:00 pm.
I promised Amy I'd be at the doors at 8. I have twenty minutes to get completely dressed.
"How the fuck does this thing go?" I make a face while knotting up my tie.
"Hey, watch your language, Luke." Mum opens the door, holding a small bag.
"Sorry," I mumble. I feel my cheeks becoming hot.
"Give me that," she takes the tie, throwing it aside. "I bought you this." Mum retrieves a bow tie from the small bag, matching Sam's dress. Light blue, with a smaller black bow tie in the center.
"Mum, you didn't ha-"
"Shut up. Yes I did. Your brothers would never let me help them, and, seeing as you're the youngest, I am going to help you."
As Mum and I finish, I meet Samantha and Amy at the door.
"Samantha," I say, mouth agape. "You look extravagantly beautiful."
The dress fits her perfectly, especially in the chest area. Her hair has been curled in small curls, longer ones to line her face.
"You're so beautiful," I say once more.
"It's not too much?" Sam asks.
"Of course not." I notice the necklace she is wearing, it's the one I had bought her years ago.
I snap the corsage on her wrist before leading her to the dance floor.A few songs pass before a slow one plays.
Sam rests her Head on my chest as I rest my hands on her waist.
"Why did you do this, Luke?" Sam whispers
"Do what?"
"Bring me here? Why'd you buy all this? Why'd you pick me, out of all the girls?"
I bring her eyes to lock with mine. "I wanted to share the last dance of the year with you. I bought it all because that's what I'm supposed to do. I'm supposed to spoil you. I chose you because you chose me. I'm in love with you, Samantha Joe."
"But, Luke.."
"No buts. Excuse me, but I need to use the restroom." Sam makes her way to Amy as I exit the dance floor.
I ask everyone if they'd seen Mr. Eden "no. I'm sorry," they had said.
"Shit," I reply.
"Language, Hemmings," Mr. Eden says as we bump into each other.
"Sorry," I say. "Can I do it now?" I anxiously ask.
"I suppose." He nods, "Follow me." We make our way to the stage area.
Everyone gasps when they see me.
"Hello, everyone," I say into the microphone. "I suppose you're all wondering what I'm doing. Well, I'm going to tell you. A while ago, I lost my best friend, all because my stupidity. I had a girlfriend, which everyone knows, I thought I loved. I was wrong.
"Things between she and I had fallen apart. After the break up, I was rude to everyone. I lost so many friends, and gained so many fake ones. It hurt like hell when I lost the most important one.
"She stuck with me through everything. We fought, we hated each other. But in-between our fighting spell, which was forever, I fell harder for her than I have anyone.
"A few months in, we had gotten new assigned seats. Seeing as our names were close together, and, also, the fact we have every class together, we'd be assigned beside each other.
"She hated me still. We always fought. She'd refuse to talk to me. But when she did, a new door opened up. One that led me to realize she's the one for me. We worked things out, thankfully, and she was mine.
"Through the tears, the fights, the hatred, the smiles, and the laughs, I've never fallen so hard in my life. I'm completely and helplessly in love. She's the one.
"And the love we make, I don't want to share it with anyone else. Only you. You make me feel like a child again. Every time we share love, it's like the first time. I'm up here in front of the whole higher year classes to confess my love for you.
"Samantha Joe," I say smiling, "I'm asking you to be my wife. Will you marry me?"Everyone whispers as the spot light lands on Samantha.
My heart pounds, waiting.
A smile appears, and tears shed. "Of course I'll marry you, you loser." Samantha and Amy make their way to the front.
Samantha walks on stage, accepting the ring I had bought. She is flabbergasted by the beauty of it. "Luke, this is all too much."
"No. I promise." I give her a kiss as the crowd cheers.
"I love you so much," the crowd awes as we share a kiss once more.
"Ask me again if I love you," I reply
"Luke, do you really love me?" Samantha asks
The crowd behind us yells "yes" and cheers.
"I'm so in love with you, it hurts to think of you being with someone else." I kiss her lips once more, picking her up bridal style. "You're mine, Samantha."
"And you're mine, Luke."
I carry her off stage, into the back room.
The memories we made shall forever hold a place in my heart.
