Luke's P.O.V
I had forgotten an extra T-shirt for Sam. My face turns hot at my stupidity.
"I'll go get it," I say, fully clothed. As soon as I step out of the bathroom, my mum comes down the hall.
"Hi, Mum.." I nervously say.
"Luke." Mum strictly says. "What are you doing? You're supposed to be in school. You're not skipping, are you?"
"N-no." I stutter. Shit. She knows I'm lying now.
I try to distract her from the door.
"I heard someone else talking. Who is it? Sam?" She moves closer to the door.
"Uh, we had to, uh, come home because she..was sick. She was sick. She started throwing up at school, so I brought her home." I crack a hopeful smile.
Mum turns the door knob.
This is it. This is where she finds out the truth. Sam and I-
"Oh dear, is she okay?"
"Uh, yeah. Now she is. I was just going to my room to grab another shirt. She kinda threw up all on her clothes. She's wearing some of mine now." I nod.
Mum narrows her eyes. "Then, why is your hair damp. Why do you look wet? Those aren't the clothes you wore to school." She places a hand on her hip. I sigh. "Luke, is there something you're not telling me?"
Just before I could answer, the phone started ringing. Mum stared at me for a while, then answered the call. She steps out of the hall, into a different room. I sigh, in relief.
"Thank God." I walk back to my room and grab an extra shirt. I quickly give it to Sam. "Here. She thinks you're sick, so when you come out, act sick, please?"
Sam nods. "I heard." I watch as she puts my shirt on. She looks hella fine. "Shall we?"
Sam and I both walk out of the bathroom, prepared to meet Mum. She had just hung up the phone when we walked through.
"Samantha, how are you feeling?"
Sam coughs. Believable. "Better, now that it all came up."
Mum smiles. "Well, I hope you start feeling better. I just got a call. They need me at work. I should be back around dinner. If not, you know what to do." She gives us each hugs and kisses before leaving.
Sam and I sigh.
"Do you think she believed it?"
"Yeah. She seemed to." I say.
Sam shrugs and pulls her hair back. "I don't know what to do about my stuff, though. Mum definitely won't let me come get my things, and Dylan will tell if he knows."
"So. Sam, your parents will know. Dylan can get over it. I promise, it'll be okay."
Sam nods. "Okay. Let me get my shoes, then we'll go, alright?"
I nod and smile.
I wait patiently for Sam's return. Moments later, she says, "Are you ready?"
I open the door for us and the keys.
"Let's go." I take her hand in mine as we stroll the street. "Ya know, I'm actually glad you don't live that far from me. It'd be an eternity if you did."
"Yeah, but it'd be even better if we had our cars." Sam chuckles.
"Maybe we shouldn't have gotten detention."
"Lord only knows what she'll do if she finds out about today," Sam rests her head on my shoulder. "I don't want to get you in trouble."
"You dont, baby. I promise. Even if you did, it'd be worth it."
She shakes her head.
"No. Don't say that. It's not worth it. You're better than that."I kiss her nose.
"And you're better for me than anyone else."
Sam kisses my lips.
"I think you're better for me than I am for you."
"Either way, I'm glad you're mine."
