Myra
I'm in the Radhanagari Wildlife sanctuary while being on this super crazy photographic expedition. I love this trip so much. Of course I love birds and photography but the other reason being Vivan. He is right in the next room and the thought itself brings butterflies in my stomach.
The worst thing about Radhanagari is that this place marks an end to our expedition. After staying together for 1 and a half months, we are supposed to go back to our homes. Of course we both live in the same city but there are problems in our relationship, just like everyone else in a relationship out there. Plus we suffer from the most common problems. We suffer from family problems. We both come from different backgrounds and religions. Well, it really shouldn't matter but it is India. This is the one main thing that matters.
I come from a Brahmin, Tamilian family. Though being a pure vegetarian, me and my brother are the only two people from our family who eat non veg. Well, he ate it when he went to Japan for a student exchange program, me, well, I followed his golden footsteps. Whereas, Vivan comes from a Gujarati family. He is not even eggetarian. You have clearly no idea how much I was craving to put non-veg delicacies on my plate the whole trip but I resisted it. He means more to me than the non-veg dishes which I rarely get to eat.
This might seem like the Chetan Bhagat's: '2 States', but let me tell you, it is not. We are star crossed lovers since our school days. I didn't even expect him to like me, let alone love me. Added to that, the most intimate thing that we have done till the date is kiss each other on the cheeks. I know it is weird for a couple who has been in a relationship for so long, but it is just too awkward. I also have become a laughing stock because of this in front of my girlfriends.
All of my girlfriends used to think that I would be the first one to kiss, to sleep around and eventually get married. Alisha getting married was a big shock rather than a surprise. I mean, she hated the topic of marriage itself.
"Myra," comes his voice.
"Hie," I greet him with a cheerful smile.
"Sup?"
"I have been packing since the morning," I said. "I am just too tired to do anything else."
He chuckles and then pats on my back. "I can understand. Need help with the zip?"
I nod keeping the bag in a place and allowing him to sit on it. It takes me another five minutes of laughing and cracking jokes while struggling with the zip to finally wrap it up.
"I don't wanna go home," he confesses.
"Me either," I agree.
"It had just started when now it is coming to an end."
"Mhmm.. A few more days wont be a bad idea," I said while he was playing with my hand, still sitting on the bag.
"A few more days wont be enough for us," he says. I shift my gaze from our hands to his face and I find something more in his dazzling brown eyes. And for the first time ever he is leaning in. I'm having a conflict with myself, debating whether to give in or not. Well, it is my first time; it has to come someday. Is it too soon? Will it be okay? Before I have made up my mind, his lips are touching mine.
There's this different kind of sensation that has taken over me. I can feel goosebumps on my hands. The butterflies in my stomach have modified into something dangerously good and I just don't want to pull away.
The kiss lasts for a few seconds though it seems like forever. The awkwardness has arrived making us flush red; yet his eyes are still beaming into mine. I just don't know what to make out of it.
"I love you, I really do," he whispers softly.
"I love you," I repeat, his forehead touching my temple, and this makes me feel content. as if there is nothing else left to worry about.
So now, no one from our group has been left out on having a kiss. It's hard to believe that I was the only one remaining. Even Vicky had her first kiss back in those school days. Yeah, she was the first one to have kissed a guy. She spilled the beans after entering in college, when Alisha told us about her first.
We sit and talk for some more time in my room as he helps me pack my handbag. I offer to help him pack his stuff but he had done it last night. He always has his work done beforehand. So when the lunch is announced, we go together to the mess.
"Alisha is getting married," I said putting a spoonful of custard on my plate, the last thing on the buffet table.
"Alisha is what?" he nearly choked on the water he was drinking.
"You heard me."
"Is this kind of a joke?"
"It is not! We thought the same way, but it is true. It's unrealistic but true. She is done arguing with her parents and is getting engaged in 2 weeks!"
"That's too soon," he blinked repeatedly. That's something he does when he is giving a thought to something. I love the way he is involved with my friends.
"I know! And now she wants us to do all the bridal stuff for her," I said making a tired face.
"I'd like to see you in a saree," he said thoughtfully.
I rolled my eyes at his confession. "It is not happening."
"It is your best friends wedding. You'll have to wear one or your dead," he says. He does make sense. Alisha would rather kill me than have me wear a sweatshirt at her engagement.
"True that," I said mentally preparing myself to wear a saree.
I remember those days when mum used to ask me: what would I wear on my wedding if not a saree, if I hated it so much. I had concluded in my head that I would rather get married in a bird sanctuary, wearing a track pant and a sweatshirt, and putting DSLR cameras over each others head rather than garlands. I mean, it would be a one of a kind wedding and we would name it 'When Birdy meets Birdy-guy'. But, I thought about it when I was in 9th so, yeah, it wont happen.
"You should wear a pink saree," he said stuffing his mouth with rice.
"That's the last color on my list," and he knows it already.
