Alisha
It's about to be 8 pm. It's time we leave for our next destination. We had bid our goodbyes to the boys and girls from the ornithology group and now we said our goodbye to chief.
"It was good to have you lovely ladies here," he said while a man was loading our bags on the rented car.
"And we all definitely enjoyed our stay here," Myra said. "You are a great host."
"Awe why, thanks," he said. We all giggled.
"Do visit again, yeah girls?"
"Of course, chief, until then-" Zara said and we all gave him a salute.
"Over and out," he said. We got in the car and and he shut the door as Vicky scooted in. "Hang in there, okay? Where there are downs, there's always an up. Trust yourself and your road. Do the thing which you feel is the right one. This life is cruel. Trusting yourself is the best option. And when you have friends like yourselves, then things get easier. Stay as you are. God bless you and I hope everything works out for you. Dream big, yeah?"
"Yeah," we all said, happy with the small pep talk.
The car started and so did ur journey. We all decided to sleep it out. The driver has already warned us about the road being in a bad shape with lots of twists. We stay up and throw up or we go to sleep safe and sound. Sleeping seemed the better option but with a completely strange man as the driver, taking risks this late at night wasn't a good option. We decided to take turns while sleeping. I took the first watch. I could see the man ogling at my girls and then look at me. I don't see the point in flinching away. I stared back. Probably the meanest stare ever. He swallowed a gulp at my reaction and then looked straight at the road.
That's when my phone ringed. I shrugged a bit to get the phone outta my pocket. Jay. Where was he for last 3 days? I had no calls from him. Like none. Was he like dead? I'd be the happiest creature if he were. But unfortunately he was fit and fine. He probably had better stuff to do last three days.
"Hello my to-be-wife," he says in a devilish tone.
"Hello," I said, not sounding scared.
"Where are you?"
"I'm the car. On my way to Manali."
"Oh, where are your so called 'people'."
"They're asleep."
"Now stop talking to me as if I am just another person. I am going to be your husband. Treat me like one."
"O-okay. Okay," I said totally scared of the pitch he was using. Yet I tried to keep it low so that I won't wake the girls up.
"And what's with that hair colour of yours? You're no Scarlet Johansson to have your hair coloured red! Do you wanna look like a prostitute while marrying me? Have you gone insane?"
"The colour has almost gone. In two more wash, it's going to be nil," I said slowly. How dare he called me a prostitute? It took every nerve in me to keep me back from calling him every disgusting name I probably can.
"That's better. Here forth anything that you do to your physique will be done only when you get my approval, get it?"
"Yeah," I muttered.
"And stop posting your pics all over Facebook and Instagram. You're no more a girl. You don't  need the world to see your beauty and like it and add stupid comments all over it. Show your beauty to me cause that's how it's supposed to be."
"Okay." I don't find any reason to argue with him. I've tangled myself into this mess. There's no turning back right now. I wish I could've told my mum about this. She would've understood, of course. But the wedding is due in a few weeks. Every arrangement is done. Each and every guest is invited. Plus I don't have any proof to show it to them. I know that she will believe me, after all I'm her daughter but it will be hard to convince her since he is the perfect guy in their eyes. The guy who goes on calling my mom and dad 'mummy and papa' and who also bends down to touch their feet every time. Why the hell is he even pretending? This bitch.
"And, if I don't ring you up doesn't mean that you can't as well. Call me up if I don't call you the whole day. I need updates and I need to know where you all are roaming. I don't trust you, you see. Not even a bit."
"I know."
"You better do."
That's  when i hear a groan from his side of the car. a groan from a girls mouth. the groan that you hear when you are sound asleep and you just get out of you dream and about to open you eyes. and she doesnt even sound that old. pretty young, i guess.
"Who was that," I was quick enough to ask.
"Wh-what? Who?" Stammer. The next line he will say is a lie. I know guys at least that much.
"Nobody. I'm gonna hang up. Bye." He said.
There was a woman in his room. At this hour?
I call up my mother-in-law. Or to be mother-in-law. Whatever. "Hello, aunty?"
"You're still calling me aunty? How many times should I tell you that I'm your mother as well," and here she goes again with that melodrama. Im so tired of this lecture. I mean, I'm new to this stuff and I need time to adjust with it. I just can start calling a woman as 'mother' only because I'm getting married to her son. I need to see her as a mother to accept her as one.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, m-mom," I say. "I was wondering where Jay is. His phone is out of coverage."
"Didn't he inform you? He is out on a business trip. He is at Hyderabad. And he said he will be back in another few days. Says he met a few school time friends. You know how it is like when you meet old friends."
"Yes, yes," I try to settle the whole information. "How long has he been there? Like, a day or two?"
"Three days," no wonder he hasn't called me. He will come back in two to three days."
"Okay."
"I'll tell him that you called?"
"No. I'll call him myself. Thank you mom," I said in the sweetest possible way."
"Oh okay," she said. "Sure. So now tell me about your trip and about all of these friends you're with. After all, you will be spending the rest of your life here, and mostly with me since we will be at home, so you and I definitely need to bond. Yeah?"
Totally creeped by the idea I started pretending as if I am Losing the network. "Hello? Mom," I took the plastic bag in the car and started crushing it near the speaker. "I cannot hear you properly. I'm heading, heading to Manali, and there's going to be network problem. I'll call you up when I'll be in rage.. I'll call you...." And bye. I gave a sigh of relief. She's a nice women. God knows how she gave birth to such a prick. Maybe money spoiled him. Or there's always the father to blame. Or he is a two faced bitch. Well , definitely the third. He is a two faced bitch.
So what am I to do of this newfound information? I hated the man I was getting married to. Now I hate him more. He is already cheating on me. I wonder what will happen to me once I get married.
