Zara
I know I am doomed for not showing up early but I don't know how to show up there. I want to be there for Alisha but the fact that Anmay will also be there is making me nervous. Will he talk to me at least for the sake of talking or will he throw a fit about it? I just don't want anyone to know that we broke up. Well he did, I didn't. It's over for him, not for me.
I am dressed up in a golden fishtail saree. That's gonna be our - me, Vicky and Myra's - dress code for today. Alisha is going to be wearing something way more prettier that what we are. I have seen the pictures of the lahenga her in-laws had given her for today like a week ago. She is going to look like an Indian version of barbie doll. I cant wait to see her.
I step inside her house. The big hall is decorated in the shades of pink, white and blue. Well, blue is Alisha's favorite. Hopefully pink is not her husbands choice. I mean, that's so gay.
I spot Anmay standing with Vivan. I want to go there and talk to him but I don't want to create a scene here. The way he has been screaming at me on the phone makes me shiver. I don't want to spoil my girlfriend's engagement because of my shitty relationship.
Before he spots me and is aware of my presence, I make my way to Alisha's room. I knock twice and the door opens. Behind it stands Birdy with one heck of a mess.
"What the fuck happened here?" is all that leaves my mouth. Seemed like a tornado decided to attack only her room.
"Is this the time to arrive at your best friend's engagement, you jerk?" she yelled at me. I think I deserve that.
"I'm sorry-" I couldn't even complete my apology which I had been practicing in front of the mirror, the whole night, when Alisha came to the door managing that big lahenga in her hands.
"Slam the door on her face! I don't even know this bitch," she yelled.
When Birdy is about to do just that, I manage to push the door inside avoiding it to be locked.
"Come on! Let me in! I am sorry. I mean it. I couldn't get a flight," I said.
"You couldn't get a fucking flight? Anmay arrived here last night. I thought he was joking when he said that he came alone because you had some 'business to take care of'. I am so mad at you!" Alisha screams.
"You're one heck of an angry bride on her engagement day! Now lemme in. I know how to pin up your dress," I told. Goal!
"You do?"
"M-hmm," I nodded.
"Make some room for this bitch," she said stepping aside. Finally!
The room was a complete mess. Poor Vicky was cleaning it again and again just to have it messed by Alisha, again. How can someone be so frantic? Well she is getting engaged. She has to be. I wouldn't blame her.
"Alisha, will you just sit in a place?" I scold her. I have to or else she's never getting dressed. She made a face to me and sat. I called Vicky to help me and told Myra to cleanup the mess in the meantime. Her in-laws will be here in an hour or so. There's so much more to do. "Babe, don't you have a stylist for yourself?"
"The bitch ditched me," she yelled again.
"Oh we are definitely suing her once the ceremony is over," I say.
"Like hell we are," she agrees. "I'm gonna drag her to court and make the judge punish her for screwing up the deal without any notice." Okay. The doctor of law in her is starting to show up.
"L-O-L. So how's Jay to be exact," I try diverting the topic. This is the best I can come up with. I expected a super excited description of him from her but she wasn't upbeat anymore.
"He's... pretty... umm.. pretty cool, really," she stammered. I look at Birdy and Vicky but both of them seem to be as worried as I am.
"That's all," I raise my brow to her reflection in the mirror.
"My throat is kinda dry," she says instead.
"Oh! you know what," Birdy says. "i'll get vodka for you'll." Being the girl that she is, she'll never drink.
"Perfect," I said and resumed pinning her dress. "Vicky, mind doing the hair?"
"I'm on it," she says. She is the perfect hairstylist in the group. Having long hair she usually finds many amazing hairstyles so that she can do something with her hair rather than just leaving them open; but I swear I love it when her hair is left open. She looks so beautiful but she never really agrees to it, though I have caught her admiring herself in the mirror many a times. I know why she lost her self confidence. It's only because of that bastard. I swear I'll stab him in the chest when I meet him. no one can stop me from doing that.
While I was thinking on ways to kill that bastard Myra arrived with our drinks. I tried persuading her to at least try but she wouldn't. And though people might have wanted us to stop Alisha from drinking, I don't think we should. A bride always needs that one shot before she walks to her beloved to commit herself to him. And this bride might need more than one.
"Come Vicky, let's dress you up," I told her since she is still wearing her sweats. My mom being a fashion designer had once taught me how to put up various types of sarees, and fishtail was one of them. If I am a little bit of a girl then I will thank my mother for that, otherwise I am the perfect boyfriend to my girlfriends.
