It's five am and all of us are up. We are tired, agreed, but we are also excited. I wish Vivan was here, it would have had been amazing. He would have loved this place. Anyone will love this place.
Anyway we got into a fresh pair of jeans. We haven't taken a bath since we landed in Manali, duh. I mean who takes a bath in ice cold water? Plus the good part is that we don't stink that much. In fact we don't stink at all. Since it's so cold here there's no chance of sweat and as there ain't no sweat we don't stink. It's all perfect.
I wanted to oil my hair but I found that the oil itself had frozen, great. So I just make a bun and cover it with my beanie. We wore a clean pair of socks and gloves and wore the jacket we got from the institute. That's one thing our groups decided to keep common.
We wore our shoes and then started to apply some sunscreen and lip balm. And we were ready to go.
#Vicky
Down when we reached, the boys were already sipping their tea in the mess. "Good news, they got coffee today," Arjun Thapar, the supposedly hot boy said. We got to know his name later last night when the boys at his bench were teasing him or something in a really high pitch.
With them sat two girls, we had seen them last night on their table. Batch mates I guess. So the eight of them and the four of us. So total 6 boys and six girls.
I eagerly took the coffee in my glass and the moment the coffee touched my lips I didn't care about the burn it caused but the familiar bitter taste made me feel more alive. Damn I missed coffee! Coffee is my daily necessity.
"Have you been here before," Alisha asked.
"Twice, but during early summers. It's my first time here in September."
"Oh, two years! No wonder you're so good," Zara said.
He chuckled. "You're good yourself. I mean it. In just 4 days you've learnt really very Zara."
"I know right. I'm just too good!"
"You can't even be modest," I giggled.
"Not in my blood, girl. Imma be me all the time."q
"Shall we,"asked a guy who was hearing our conversation.
"Sure," Arjun said as he motioned us to do so too
#Zara
We walked past through the steep slope, on the rocky patch and up the gentle slope. Fencing the gentle slope from random tourists was a temporary wall made by rocks to separate the institute land from the rest and also to keep tourists away from the skiing area.
We jumped over the wall carefully and walked ahead in a single file. "Last day today?" Arjun asked as we were walking.
"Well, yeah, we leave tomorrow morning," Vicky answered.
"That's sad," he said.
"I know right, we just got a hang of this sport and it's time to go," I said. "Not fair."
"You just can't get enough of skiing. It always wants you to come back. And I really don't mind climbing the whole slope with the two skis on my shoulder to just slide back down where I began all over again. It's just fun."
"By the way, why have you been coming here for three years? I mean you're already good at this and yet you wanna learn more?" Myra asked carefully taking each step by sparing her a rough fall.
"Well I-" he was saying when I heard a scream, "HELP!! FREAKING HELP ME!!!"
#Alisha
I looked around and I couldn't resist my laughter. Nor could anyone else. It was Vicky, one foot on the land, the other dug deep in the snow.
"I told you before to not to walk near the rocks! The ice melts due to their warmth which makes it easier for your legs to sink in," he said while walking towards her as we are getting red due to the unstoppable laughing.
"Stop squirming now," he said as he approached her. The people ahead of us, except another guy had walked a long distance. They were in no business to stop.
Zara and Myra walked with the other guy ahead as I waited for Vicky to be saved. He started digging from where her thigh was and when most of it was done I thought I could be a little helpful.
He took one of her hands and I took the other and pulled her out. "Thank you so much.. That was so damn cold!"
"Well, for avoiding this We will take the small path made for horses so that we can match their speed," he suggested.
"Sure. Anything will do as long as my feet is not being sunk in the snow," he shook his head with a smile and a few chuckles and led us to the path.
"So u were saying something?" I asked.
"Oh yes," he said. "So I was saying, I want to go to Zermatt."
"Switzerland?"
"Yes, and ski there. And while I do ski there, I don't want to embarrass myself by falling on my face. So I came here, I trained and now I think I'm ready for Zermatt. Plus I'm gonna take lessons for snowboarding there," he said with a grin.
"Sounds fun," Vicky told.
"It is fun," he said.
"And why are you'll here?"
"We are ticking out pointers on our 'things to do before you die' list," I said.
"Ah, a girl's group also does such stuff?"
"So, you're saying that a girls group cannot do such stuff," I raised my brows.
"Whoah, I didn't mean that, it's just unusual to see a girls gang on road completing a to-do list."
"That we know, we have been out for more than 2 weeks now, travelled to different corners of India, and a few more things left and we are done."
"Well aren't you rushing this then?"
"We are left with no choice, this bitch is getting married in like three weeks. And there's no scope of doing this after that."
"Congratulations," he said. "But shouldn't you be prepping for your marriage? Like, it's an important day."
"My marriage is going to be a 4-5 days event with lotsa traditional shit and it definitely will be important to me but you know, the most important things come to us in the form of people. And these three girls are the most important part of my life and these four weeks is what I needed the most before I started a new life with someone I have never known before. This trip means a lot to me. It is giving me a chance to taste freedom for, maybe, the last time."
