"The bags to go directly into the boot space," Alisha yelled from the behind.
"I'll be driving first," I announced.
"Cool, I'll take over after you," Vicky told.
So this is the day. We all are leaving for Goa. It's roughly a six hour drive from Ratnagiri. Driving six hour straight is really tiresome, but we are trying to save all the money that we can, hence I, Vicky and Alisha will be taking turns on Alisha's mini cooper. Myra doesn't drive so she wont be taking over anytime sooner or later.
It's 5 in the morning and its really cold. The black clouds in the sky show their sparks every now and then . It's gonna rain real soon, and real hard.
The convertible is packed and we have pulled the roof up. We have no desire to be drenched in water before reaching Goa. I get into the car and look at the steering wheel, preparing myself for the 2 hour drive, before Vicky takes over. I switch on the navigator in the car and connect it with the hot-spot from my phone and select the shortest route to Goa. We are seriously in no mood of getting lost and wasting our days finding our destinations.
I look around to find everyone talking among themselves or on the phone, except for Alisha. Nor is Jay seen anywhere around. He had come half an hour ago from now to bid all of us a safe journey. Where the hell are they now?
The curiosity got the best out of me. I got out of the car and went to search them. Hopefully they are nearby. I make sure nobody catches me while I am investigating, and go on the other side of the house. I hear voices from the wall which is making a right angle with wall I am sticking to. Its obvious that the voices belong to Alisha and Jay. I tip toe till the corner and hear the conversation keenly. Eavesdropping is bad, but I need to do this.
"I didn't mean to ignore them, it wasn't intentional," Alisha says.
"It wasn't intentional? I called you around ten times last night and you couldn't even hear a single call?"
"The phone was on silent mode," she justified. I bent a little and peeped on the other side of the wall making sure that they are not aware of my presence.
Suddenly he grabbed her hand in his and pulled her close so that they were just inches apart. And trust me, it wasn't a romantic move. His eyes reflected his anger. Alisha was hell afraid and so was I.
I wanted to interfere and help Alisha get out of this but how do I do this? I need to know what is exactly going on. I cannot make false assumptions though I can see it right in front of my eyes. What if I go in there and help her and he makes a stupid excuse for his behavior? How do I get to know the truth then? So I keep my mouth shut and just listen. But if he tries to cause any harm to her, that's my cue to save her.
"I don't really want you to go. And I wouldn't have let you go if it wasn't for all of your so called friends. I don't trust you. Not even the tiniest bit. So I hope you're up to no shit. If you don't get your ass back here on 5th of November, I am going to ruin your family. Don't even think of running away. And don't do anything, and I mean 'anything', that would disgrace me and my family. And your phone shall never be on silent. You're gonna pick up every single call of mine no matter what you're doing or where you are, or else you'll face the consequences when you come back home. And don't do any sort shit with those chimps that are accompanying you. You're no more just a girl. You're getting married. To me. And I hope that boys are not on your list at all. Understood?"
She nodded quickly. Really scared of this threat. What is all this about? I need to sort things out. But how do I do it? I need to tell this piece of information to the others, but how can I? It's not my story to tell. It's hers.
Well, we are going to be out for over a month. She's gonna be with us.She's gonna be safe and sound. And somewhere, after sometime, she's going to spill the beans. She's never hidden a thing from us before, and there is noway that she is going to hide such a big news from us now.
So I'm not gonna tell anything about it now to anyone. I'm not even going to tell her that I overheard this conversation. I wont even provoke her to tell us all of it. I am just going to wait for her to trust us enough to share this piece of information. It's been a long time since we have met. It's been even longer since we have shared something really serious about each others life. Like I haven't told them about the brake up. So it puts me in the same place as hers but my case is different. Its not gonna harm me as it will harm her. So I'm going to be patient and wait for her to tell the news. And, on the last day if she doesn't tell, then I guess I'll have no choice left but to initiate the topic.
So before they are aware of my presence, I make my way back to the car. I lean on the door and see Myra hug Alisha's mother.
"Take care of that bum," her mother told Myra. L-O-L! This is another story... well, which I probably shouldn't tell.
My thoughts suddenly changed their route and took me on a weird path. Did Myra's mom force this marriage onto her? Geez, no! Who am I doubting!
This is Alisha's mother we are talking about. She is the coolest mom among all of our mothers. She knows how weird we are. She knew about all the affairs Alisha had and didn't give a shit about it until she became a little miserable after a break up. She also knows about Myra and Vivan, and me and Anmay. She also knows Vicky's love story. She is not the mother who would force marriage on her only child. She is not one of those. So that topic met a dead end.
I am sure this asshole brought down this situation onto her. But can her father be responsible for this? Did he force her into this? I remember jay talking about ruining her family. So did uncle really..? Well it cant happen so. The both of them love her to the moon and back. They would prefer getting ruined rather than forcing their daughter to marry such a cruel man. Apart from everything, he called us chimps. That asshole.
I saw past them to find Alisha making her way to us. Her face, expressionless, eyes fixed on the ground, and her hands shaking. She is so disturbed. She never is such a mess. Jay comes after her with a grin on his face, for God knows what reason. The girls notice that and make faces to Alisha. Wait. Did they just think that they were making out? Gross. Assholes. Real assholes!
"Guys, shall we?" I asked, saving the really miserable Alisha.
"Yes please,"she said.
