Ch. 38

𝑹𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒐 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒔𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒉𝒔 𝒂𝒈𝒐.

   𝐑𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐨 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. The cursed spirit she just had it out with forced her into a game of hide and seek and took way too long to exorcise. Her practically new shoes squeaked with every step she took, and it internally irked her.

   "Hey Rintaro, you're looking quite blue." Haibara jokingly said to try and cheer up his fatigued friend. His eyes traced the trail of blue footprints she left behind before turning around to join in on her slow walk through the school. "Do you get it... Because their blood is sometimes blue. Or in your case, it actually is blue this time."

   "Yeah, the sucker was too fast on its like, hundreds of legs." She brought her hand up to her forehead and rubbed away the drop of navy blue blood that seeped from behind her bangs. "Had to cut them off one at a time just to get it to stay in one place."

   "Sounds brutal and tiring, so if you need help getting to your dorm, I can call Nanami and he could carry you there." Haibara beamed his usual contagious smile, yet this time it seemed to do nothing. Rintaro side eyed the first year with a small look of confusion on her features, "Oh, it'll be Nanami because I'm wimpy and he's super buff!"

   "No it's fine, I'm almost there. And if I needed to, I would call Suguru or Toru." The disappointed friend pushed his lower lip out and huffed a sigh, sending his thick bangs upwards with the breeze. "I appreciate it, though. You two are too good of frie- Actually, how's Kento doing... Haven't seen him in a while."

   "Yeah about that, he started training with Kyoto, the other school for sorcerers. He mentioned something about the principal there recruiting him." Yu pouted to himself sorrowfully, obviously missing his blonde classmate.

   "No goodbyes came with the invitation?" Rintaro looked over to her underclassman with hurt brewing within her.

"No, he still comes back to the school! Nanami just trains at that school, but he still lives here." She turned back to face the oncoming stairway, somewhat satisfied with his answer.

   "I'll stop by his dorm sometime and maybe we can all hang out, it's been too long since we have." Rintaro immediately thought back to the times she spent lunch with the two, and even stood up late to play board games with them whenever her trio was out doing their duties as Jujutsu sorcerers. "But, I'll see you when that time comes Yu, have a good day!"

   "Have a good one, Rintaro!" She immediately began to ascend the steep staircase up to the third floor, where her twin was waiting for her.

   Haibara silently watched from the bottom step, trying to work up the courage to tell her the truth about Nanami. He so badly wanted to see the two of them together and happy with each other's presence once again. But, whatever had happened between them a couple weeks ago seemed to change it all.

   Rintaro turned the cold metal of the door knob in her aching palm, the door clicked open and she pushed it forward gently. Satoru curiously peered at his twin through the crack that grew, worry and excitement simultaneously filling him.

   "Whoa Rin, you do not look good." Satoru slid himself off the countertop to walk towards his twin, who was starting to weigh down his own emotions. "Yeah I know, I look blue, don't I?"
