I broke through the flames and covered my mouth with my arm as I rushed to the stairs, trying to ignore the searing pain that I felt in my legs. The flames were already causing pain in my legs, but I pushed through the pain. I had to get to Kailyn. A thud sounded upstairs, and that made me push myself harder, to get to Kailyn. The one thing that made me push harder, was Kailyn. You must save her, Scott Hoying. I scolded myself when I fell. The flames lapped at my body as I pushed myself to my feel and rushed upstairs. Dashing down the hall and to Kailyn's room, I ingored the searing pain as the flames lapped at my arms, which were already burnt. I could hear Kailyn couphing, so I called out.

Me: Kailyn, are you there?

She pounded on the door, which told me that she was alive, but it sounded weak. Kailyn was barely awake.

Me: Stand back, sweetheart. I'm coming.

I stepped back and used all my strenght and kicked as hard as I could, breaking the charred door. Once the smoke and dust had cleared, I saw Kailyn lying limp on the floor, flames lapping at her body. Poor thing, she's terribly burnt. It made my heart ache seeing her this injured then I had to remind myself that I might lose her if I don't hurry.

Me: Kailyn!

I rushed to her side as the cabin creaked. I might have to take it easy, to get her to safety. I advised myself as Kailyn coughed and weakly lifted her head to gasp out.

Kailyn: Scott, Kirstin o-...

Me: Shhh. Let's get you out of here.

I gently and carefully lifted Kailyn's burnt body into my amrs and stood up. After rushing to the door, I quickly stepped into the hallway. The cabin creaked once again, and this time it was louder. A spasm of coughing racked Kailyn's weakened body and I looked down as she lay limp in my arms, she was so weak. Soon her body grew limp and her breathing started to slow. No, come on sweetheart. I got you.

Me: Stay with me, Kailyn.

I quickly stepped down the stairs, intended to get Kailyn out of the fire and into the cool September air. If I died in the process, it didn't bother me as lond as I died saving Kailyn. I didn't want her to die, because I did absolutly nothing. When I ran into this cabin, I was completly aware of Kirstin and Mitch's cries for me to stop, but I kept running. I had to save Kailyn. As I stepped off the last burning stair, a creak came from above me and I knew right then that it was now or never. It's gotta be now, Scott. Don't let Kailyn die. Instead of getting her out, I looked for something to shield us when this came down on us. Without much or any warning, the entire ceiling came crashing down on us. I shielded Kailyn's burnt body the best I could with mine. My head jusrt up when I heard Kirstin's sorrow-filled voice. I looked down, wincing, at Kailyn's limp body. No! She's trapped! Kailyn's leg was trapped underneath a smoldering beam. We were trapped, but I had to get her leg from beneath that beam. Wiggling myself free, I pushed the beam as hard as I could, but it didn't budge. I quickly checked Kailyn's breathing and pulse. My heart dropped when I barely felt her pulse and feared that she was dead. I coughed from the dust caused by the collapse. At least it smees as though tht fire was out. My heart ached when I listened to the cries of Kirstin and Mitch. I loved you, both. Please continue on, Kirstin. Mitch don't let Mark get to her, please. Turning my attention back to my dying friend, I looked for another solution to the problem: Kailyn's trapped leg. I got to one side of Kailyn's limp body and put my hands underneath the beam. With one massive effort, I lifted the blackened beam just enough to slide Kailyn's body out. Using a foot, I gently pulled Kailyn's body from underneath the heavy beam. Just as I got her clear, my arms gave out. With a groan, I leaped backward as the beam fell. Kailyn weakly lifted her head, coughing.

Kailyn: Scott, where is Kirst-...

She broke off as another spasm of coughing racked her burnt and bloodied body. I got beside her and lifted her into my arms. I cradled my friend as I tried to soothe her.

Me: Shhh. It's okay, sweetie. I got you, now.

I raised my head to cry out for help. Kailyn's eyes closed in weakness as her breathing slowed.

Me: Stay with me, sweetheart.

Please don't die, Kailyn. Please, I need you alive. Kirstie needs you. I lifted my head once again to cry out, this time my voice waivered.

Me: Someone help! She's dying! I'm losing her!

The last words brought tears to my eyes as I coughed before wincing, now actually feeling my burns and other injuries. Kailyn's breathing seem to stop and I cried out.

Me: No! Kailyn, wake up please. Don't die, sweetheart!

Suddenly I felt lightheaded and I coughed. Stay.awake.Scott. I told myself as I felt the energy drain from my body. Gently placing Kailyn on the ground, my body fell to the ground and I gasped, trying to get air into my lungs. I reached out my hand and gently picked up Kailyn's burnt hand, and coughed again. Looking at Kailyn's face, I lifted my head to cry out one last time. I'm sorry, Kirstin. I tried to save her, but I've lost myself in the proccess.

Me: Help!

The cry went no further than the beams that trapped us. My body fell back to the ground as I coughed once more. My blue eyes were stinging, but I forced them open, wanting to keep a close eye on Kailyn.

Me: I love you, Kailyn.

My breathing was labored as I watched and felt Kailyn's hand tightened and it seemed as if she was begging me to stay alive. My blue eyes closed in weakness as I felt Kailyn's arm move and a sharp exhale left her mouth. She knew that I was almost dead, and now she was watching me die. Why did she have to watch me die? It would have been better for her if she didn't. I thought, bitterly, and desperately. In a weak voice, I could hear Kailyn state.

Kailyn: Scott, please don't go.

Her voice had strenghtened and I was confused and surprised as in how that was possible, but all I cared was that she might be able to survive this fire. I wouldn't survive, but Kailyn would. She could survive anything. In fact, Kailyn survived being tortured by Zac and Victoria Peterson, so she really could survive anything, including this fire that was taking my life. I felt Kailyn drag herself closer to my body and felt that she was pressing hers against mine as if trying to bring me to life. Kailyn, I'm almost dead already. Don't jurt yourself, please. You can't handle anything else. I begged her silently as I heard her start to cry. Her hands gripped my shirt as I felt her cool tears land on my back. Somehow they felt comforting, but at the same time, I hated it because it killed me to see and feel her this upset. Once last time, I coughed before losing consciousness.
