Later that day, me and Kirstin were walking around the rubble of the cabin and I went to move a metal box, but I realized that it had drawers. When I crouched down, I opened the bottom drawer and gasped. In the drawer, my Disney Trip materials were there, unscathed by fire. I gently lifted the neat stack and squealed. The trip is back on! Now only to tell Scott and Mitch, plus Jacob. Kirstin dashed over to me and scanned my body with her worried brown eyes.
Kirstin: Are you okay?
Me: More than okay, Kirstin! These survived the fire!
Her eyes then landed on a piece of paper that was trapped underneath something blackened but not broken. She lifted it, and black dust fell off onto the floor. I then saw something on the paper and sprang forward, still clinging to my books. I gently dusted the paper off and walked back over to Kirstin. She gasped when she saw the paper.
Kirstin: That survived?
Me: I guess so.
Then I happened to see the side of whatt Kirstin was holding. There's no way that survived. I studied it then I stepped closer to her.
Me: Wait a moment. Can you hold these books?
Kirstin: Of course.
I handed her the books and I took the square thing that she had in her arms. I carefully dusted off the item and a gasp of shock left my mouth when I saw what it was. Mitch's CD holder was in my hands, unbroken. I ran my hands over it to make sure that there weren't any cracks, and somehow there wasn't.
Me: It's okay!?
I ran to the car and got inside. Kirstin laughed and walked to the car. She opened her door and got in before looking at me.
Kirstin: Are you wanting to head back home?
Me: I got to get this to Mitch!
Kirstin laughed again because my voice was high with joy. She handed me my books, and I carefully sat them inside the holder. She started her car and turned around to head to my house. Kirstin turned on her radio, and I had forgotten that the CD she had gotten me was in the player. The song that came on was the sixth song Bad Weather. I smiled from ear to ear, and we both started singing the song. Once we arrived at my house, I leaped out of the car, clinging to the books and holder. I bolted inside, making Mitch leap to his feet. His brown eyes were filled with concern and fear.
Mitch: Kailyn, what's the matter?
Me: Mitch, look!
He rushed to my side and then gasped when he saw what I was holding. Gingerly, he took it from my arms and looked it over. Mitch looked up at me and had the same look I had when I first saw that it had survived.
Mitch: How is it not broken?
Kirstin: Love.
I whipped around to see Kirstin smiling. She stepped forward and put her arm around Mitch's waist. He met her brown eyes and smiled.
Kirstin: The best explanation is love. Love is the most powerful emotion. It's more powerful than the fiercest wave. It is the anchor that binds people together. Love is a universal language. Sometimes we must allow love to light the way and use our hearts to trust people. Love will light our paths, but only if we allow it. Do you think Jessica would have cried out when the cabin became engulfed if it weren't for love?
Wow! She's amazing! I didn't know that she could speak such powerful words. But Kirstin's right. Love is more powerful than anything else. Love keeps people alive when it seems they might not make it. That's how I survived that long; Love. Love allowed me to live even though I couldn't walk. Love allowed me to walk when the doctors told me I wasn't ready. Love brought Kirstin to me and kept her alive when it seemed that she was dead or going to die. It was that love that made her risk her life to save mine.
