I opened my car door and got in, whining quietly as Scott's arm left my waist. He had walked out with me and now he stood at my window. After rolling down my window, he gently placed his hand on my arm, which was elevated. His tone was soft and gentle when he spoke saying, "Call me if you need anything. Be safe traveling home, Kirstie."
I gave my friend a quick smile before rolling up my window and watching him walk into the house. A tired sigh left my mouth as I backed out of his driveway. When I reached the stop sign, I noticed that my phone had a message on it. At first, I just thought that it was Twitter or some type of social media when it buzzed; however, it was a text message from my boyfriend, Mark. Huh? After I reached over to grab my phone, I read the message.
When you get home, you're in trouble.
Instantly, I started panicking. This was not good. My body started trembling as I stared at the message. Just because I accidentally fell asleep at Scott's house doesn't mean anything. We had a long day and I would suppose I was tired. When I fell asleep, we were chatting and I had gotten cold, so I snuggled up to my best friend to get warm. That's when I had fallen asleep. If Mark knew that I fell asleep against Scott, my punishment would be way worse. And I couldn't tell the boys, because then Mark would kill me. My phone buzzed again and I fearfully read the message.
Where are you?
Okay, this is ridiculous. I am on my way, Mark! This was the point at which I had half a mind to turn my car around and stay with Scott for tonight. We had rehearsals tomorrow anyway. Then my phone buzzed again with another disturbing text.
You're going to get it when you get home.
Now I was faced with a problem that I didn't know the answer to. Should I go home or stay with Scott? It wasn't a matter of Scott wouldn't let me, it was a matter of what would Mark think. I pulled over to think about my options. If I went home, chances are that I would get beaten, but it would also put Scott's life in danger if I stayed with him. I couldn't risk my best friend's life; therefore, I pulled out of where I had stopped, and then another text from Mark made my phone vibrate.
Get home, NOW!
That's when the tears started streaming down my face. My entire body was trembling as I continued on toward my house. He won't believe me that it was only an accident. I told myself as I thought about possible solutions to this issue. When I pulled into my driveway, I thought of an idea. I should text Mitch! He would get here and if Mark was asleep, that would buy me time! I pulled out my phone again and quickly texted my other best friend.
Hey, Mitch. Sorry to bother you so late, but are you awake?
There was nothing for several long moments, but then my phone vibrated again. I took a shaky deep breath before looking down. A sigh of relief left my mouth as I read his message.
You didn't bother me, Kirstin. I was just about to go to bed, but you are more important. What's up, Kirstie?
I had to take a few moments to formulate my thoughts before I looked back down to respond to Mitch's text.
Could you come over to my house, real quick?
It didn't take my friend long to respond to my request. I could easily tell that he sensed my urgency.
Of course my angel. I'm on my way now.
His message made me smile as I turned my car off and phone. After putting my phone in my pocket, I gathered my things and got out. I unlocked the front door after taking a deep breath. I gently shut the door behind me, gripping my phone. With Mitch on his way, I would be able to get out of this situation and punishments that I was sure to recieve. I glanced around, fearfully. Suddenly I was slammed into the wall, making me drop my phone. My face was thrust into the wall, which made me cry out in pain. Little did I know, it dialed Mitch. "Kirstin? What's going on?"
We didn't hear his concerned voice and then I felt my hands forced behind my back and cuffed. I winced in pain as Mark put something around my neck and forced me onto the ground. Hurry Mitch. He held the 'leash' tight, which made it slightly hard to breathe. I heard him snarl, "You shouldn't have been so late or disobedient."
I inhaled in pain as he jerked the 'leash' again. In reaction, I grabbed his leg, only to be slapped, hard. I whimpered in pain as he then dragged me to the bedroom, where he chained me. I opened my mouth to plead, "Mark, please. We have rehearsals tomorrow."
He responded by punching my stomach, which made me scream in pain. He continued to punch and beat me until my brown eyes could barely stay open and my vision was blurry. Then Mark started to kick me, hard. When he kicked me in my stomach, I screamed in pain. Harder and Harder, he kicked me and I felt so close to death. That's when I heard a car door shut quickly. Mark stood up and brought his leg back before he forcefully put it on my chest and pressed down. "You're going to regret being late, Kirstin Maldonado."
I whimpered in pain as he then kicked me one last time, this time in my side. He left and I heard that Mitch's car had shut off. Thank goodness Mitch's here.
"H-help, S-scott."
Mark returned with a cup of water and a knife. Mitch! Hurry, please! He crouched down beside me and when to stab my stomach, but his hand jerked when a knock sounded on the door. I whimpered in pain as I felt the knife slice my wrist and blood poured from it. Mitch's concered voice then sounded, "Kirstie? You okay in there?"
Open the door, Mitchell. I longed to call out, but fear and terrible pain kept my mouth shut. Then my friend started pounding on the door. "Kirstin Maldonado, open this door. Please."
I can't Mitch. Please just come inside. His voice was higher than normal with distress as he called my name and I weakly said, "H-help, M-Mitch."
As if Mitch heard my weak statement, he burst the door open and cried out in a higher pitch. "Kirstin? Where are you?"
That's when Mark kicked me in the throat and pulled out a gun. Oh no. "I-In the b-bed-r-r-ro-room."
Mark pointed the gun at me and I squeezed my eyes shut and cried, "M-Mark. NO!"
There was an earth shattering bang and a searing pain in my shoulder, which made me scream in pain. "KIRSTIN"
The last thing that I saw before everything turned to black, was my friend bursting into the room. My eyes closed and the world turned to a black void.
