Joy pulsed through my body as I quickly neared my parents' old house, which they got back. Dad had an important announcement that me and Jessica needed to hear. When I arrived, my sister was already there waiting on the sidewalk. I got out and ran to her, enveloping her in my arms. Even though I had visited Kailyn and them yesterday, I still would show love to my sisters. I could tell that my sister was worried about something because she was staring at the ground and her hands were nervously fidgeting. I put my hand on her back and looked her in the eyes. Her green eyes were filled with worry.

Me: What's wrong, Jess?

Jessica: I hope Kailyn's okay. What if she doesn't see the note and Kirstin has to go somewhere? The same thing that happened while they were stuck in the cabin after Victoria's attack and Kirstin had a doctor's appointment. They fou-

I stopped her by putting my finger on her mouth. Putting my arms around my worried sister, I held her close. I knew that she was only this upset because of what happened four days ago. I felt my sister relax and that was when I released her. Dad stepped out onto the small front porch and walked up to us.

Jason Peterson: Is everything alright?

Me: Yeah. Jess is just worried about Kailyn.

Jessica leaned into me, staring at the ground. Dad stepped forward to hug her. She wrapped her arms around him and I sensed that her body was shaking.

Jason: What's wrong, Jessica?

Jessica: I'm sorry about everything. I tried to protect her, but I failed.

Me: Jessica Peterson, you did not fail. She's alive, right?

Jessica: Well, yes. But she almost died when Victoria took her captive. If I hadn't stepped in to care for her injuries, she would be dead! I didn't do enough to save her. I should've taken her out of there when I had the chance.

I stepped forward and pulled her away from the house. Her head lowered because she refused to meet my gaze. I lifted her chin, but she still refused to meet my concerned gaze.

Me: Jessica, look at me. Quit blaming yourself for something that Zac or Victoria did. You kept her alive, Jessica Peterson. And she would be dead if you wouldn't have stayed calm and removed that shocker four days ago. Your love for her is obvious, Jess. Believe it in your heart. Do you remember how she picked you over Kirstin? Now, do you see?

She nodded and flung herself into my arms. I rubbed her back as I held her close. One thing that has changed since she ran away from Zac and Victoria is that she's more attached to me and Kailyn. Dad called us into the house and when I stepped inside, I could hardly believe my eyes. My mother, who I thought was dead, was sitting on the couch.

Me: Mom! You're alive!

Both me and Jessica ran towards our mother and wrapped our arms around her. She enveloped us and Jessica had her face buried in her neck.

Tiffany Peterson: Yeah. If the police hadn't arrived, I would be dead. But I'm so glad that you're okay. Where's Kailyn?

Jessica: At her house, sleeping. Well I hope she is.

Me: She is. Have we gotten a phone call, Jessica?

Jessica: Well, no. But still, I will never forget what happened back in June.

Tiffany: Is she doing okay after the fire?

Me: Yeah. Actually, the doctors told them that the fire helped her after, well you know.

Jason: Jessica what happened to your neck?

Suddenly Jessica became self conscious. She stared at the coffee table in front of her. Mom rubbed her back calmly and she relaxed. Mom's brown eyes were soft and gentle.
