Chapter 6

I head down the hallway during my free period with slow steps, the memories from last night running through my mind on repeat:

***

I feel like I'm suffocating. I can't breathe. I can't stop the fear from taking over my body. Every fibre of my being feels like it's on fire. My body isn't even my own. It's just a collection of the searing pain, ripping me apart from the inside.

"Nina, Nina. Wake up!"

Hands immediately wrap themselves around my body. The feeling begins to register. The warmth of their touch. Followed by the panic in their voice.

My eyes snap open, scanning around me. The carpet, the walls, the textbooks on the desk and...

"Scott?" I just about get out through my breaths.

"It's me," He confirms running his hands over my arms, "Are you okay?"

"What happened?" I ask as my eyes search his panicked ones.

"You were mumbling in your sleep and then suddenly you started screaming."

"I did?"

"You were terrified," He says, his eyes becoming softer.

"I was?"

"Don't you remember?" He questions with furrowed brows.

I couldn't fall asleep afterwards. Even having Scott next to me didn't seem to take away the feeling in my chest. The dread. I don't know what the hell happened in that nightmare but whatever it was, that feeling is still lingering with me.

I go to turn the corner when my eyes catch sight of a familiar pair further down the hallway. I keep his gaze for a moment before I find myself walking toward him.

"Come to stalk me again?" Theo asks with an easy smile as he glances between me and his locker.

"To be fair that was Stiles' idea. I just aided and abetted."

A breath of air escapes his lips, "Did he send you here? To find out more about my imposter parents?" He says half-jokingly but there's a softness to his eyes.

"I think he's given up on that, to be honest," I say shaking my head, "But, no, actually I wanted to talk to you."

"Me?" He asks quirking a brow before closing his locker.

"I'm gonna be honest here... I don't trust you. It's nothing personal but I have bad experiences with trusting the wrong people." I say watching as his smile fades, "But... that doesn't mean I won't give you a shot."

"You will?"

"Well, you haven't really done anything to prove to us you're a bad guy."

"Thanks," He says with a grin that makes it hard not to trust him. He really does seem genuine. "But what about the others? Stiles didn't seem too keen on me."

"He'll come around."

"Could you put in a good word for me? You know, being the Alpha's girl."

My body stiffens, "Who said I'm the Alpha's girl?"

"You are... aren't you?" He asks raising his brows in curiosity.

"Yes, I am but..." I drawl out, "How did you know about that?"

That was something only the twins called me. How would he know that?

He shrugs, "It's hard not to notice."
