Chapter 18

After talking to Hayden for nearly an hour, leaving her looking less werewolfy but still severely freaked out, I let my head fall onto the pillow.

"You know my mom's going to be home any second now?" Scott says falling next to me.

"As much as I love your mom, she's going to have to drag me out of here because I give myself 2 minutes max before I'm unconscious," I protest with a well-timed yawn.

Scott rolls onto his side to face me, "You're tired?"

"Drained," I sigh, following his movements.

His eyes darken in the moonlight as his fingers begin tracing my hand, "Do you wanna talk about it?"

A wave seeps over my body taking away any tiredness that I once felt, "I don't even know how I feel. I just watched my parents die and all I feel is just... numb." I let out a breath, "I mean, I was a wreck but now... now I just... I can't let it get in the way."

"You can't bottle it up either," Scott says flickering his eyes up to me. "Trust me it doesn't help."

"I know," I sigh gripping his hand tighter in mine, "I just don't wanna think about it."

He doesn't press it further and instead brings me closer to his body. His warmth fills me immediately along with a comfort that I desperately needed. I find myself snuggling deeper into his embrace never wanting to leave it. Never wanting to face the darkness in this world. Just to have this moment where nothing else matters.

But the silence and content don't last long before those damned Dread Doctors re-enter my thoughts. How can we even begin to stop them? And how do we know that we won't have more hallucinations? I can't go through something like that again. Some memories are meant to be buried.

"Do you think it's over for us?" I ask, mindlessly tracing my fingers over his. His head moves back to look down at me with wide eyes. My brows furrow at his confusion before a laugh escapes me. "I meant the hallucinations," I smile watching his face visibly relax. "No, I'm afraid you, Scott, are stuck with me."

"I'm doomed," he teases before leaning down to peck the tip of my nose causing butterflies to swarm in my stomach from the delicate action. "The hallucinations... I don't know. I hope so. I mean, Malia hasn't had any more so maybe it's just the one."

I nod my head slightly before bringing his body closer to mine, trying my best to ignore the words swirling in my brain.

Why did it have to be that memory? I would have preferred having a memory of meeting the Dread Doctors. And considering how much I hate them and hope I've never met them before, that's saying a lot.

"What are we going to do about them? We can't even get close enough to know anything about them," A breath escapes my lips, "I mean, how do we even stop them from coming after Hayden?"

He pauses for a moment before glancing down at me, "I think I have an idea."

"About how to stop them or protect Hayden?"

"Maybe both?"

"Maybe both?"
