Chapter 9

I sat down for breakfast the next morning with my brother, Riley. We were having eggs, bacon and waffles. Bella made it this time because Esme doesn't like us eating all that fat. Me and Riley munched down on the food quickly. We didn't need a lecture from Esme on cholesterol. I mean, were immortal for crying out loud. I bit into a piece of bacon and grabbed my book bag. Riley did the same. We ran outside to the garage, past Alice's yellow Porsche and to my midnight blue gorgeous car. My baby.

I hopped in the front seat and Riley hopped in the side.

"Ready to go?" I asked.

"Just hurry up before Esme gets here."

"Don't rush me darling." I said in a southern accent. I pulled on sunglasses and turned up the radio. And drive out the garage.

We arrived at school late. We both ran to our 1st period classes, me to English and Riley to history. The teacher sighed when I walked in and I ran to my seat next to Seth. He seemed quiet today.

"Hey." I said.

"Hey." He told me. Then turned back around. A football player, Matt, kept giving me looks. His girlfriend, Missy, was staring me and she turned to her friend, that cheerleader Sarah, and whispered something and laughed. I turned up my hearing and listened.

"Who does he think she is? Matt is my boyfriend."

"Well, your boyfriend was just staring at her a few seconds ago. I think he thinks she's cute."

"What? What kind of person would like her? She's such a freak." I moved uneasily in my seat. Seth glanced at me. He saw my hesitance.

"Yeah. You know what I heard? I heard that Carlisle isn't really her father. That she was adopted because her mother was a drug addict and he felt bad for her." I tightened my grip on my notebook. They didn't know anything about my mother.

"Makes sense. A charity case. Nobody likes a bastard bitch." I slammed my notebook on the floor. Seth turned around to look at me and so did everyone else. I was tired of them. I got up, walked over to Missy, and punched her right in the face. She fell to the floor with a thump. Sarah step back, the teacher turned around.

"Ms. Cullen! What do you think your doing?!" He kept screaming at me, but I didn't care. I grabbed Sarah and smacked her clean on the face. She fell backwards.

"Bree!" Seth yelled. He pulled me back and I resisted, but somehow he was stronger than me. How was that possible? He pulled me into the hallway. "Calm down," He said, "your not being rational." I turned to him.

"Rational?! When someone calls you a bastard bitch, it's kinda natural that you lose all rationality." He seemed confused.

"What? I didn't hear her say that at all."

"Well I did, and that's all that matters." I started walking away and he followed me.

"Listen, whatever you said or whatever you heard, you can't let it get to you. You can't lose your guard. One day, you actually might hurt someone."

"I don't care. I don't need your sympathy."

"Sympathy for what? That your adopted? There's nothing wrong with that."

"There's something wrong when that idiotic bitch wants to start talking about people's mother." I lost it. A tear fell down my eye and I wiped it away. He almost looked sorry for me. "She wasn't a drug addict. She was just a confused teenager. It wasn't her fault." Another tear fell down. And another. They started falling faster now. He grabbed me in an embrace. He took a step back and looked at me with his fingers in my cheek, wiping away the tears.

The way he stared at me. It was so intense. It wasn't the sympathy or confusion he had had before, it was something else. My body felt warm and my heart sped up. I took a deep breathe, I couldn't stop looking at him. And apparently the same was for him. I looked into his chocolate brown eyes and moved closer to him, we weren't even a centimeter apart. Our noses touched. I could feel his breath on my skin. It was warm. He grabbed my hand without looking away and I could feel the electricity course into my arm and I snatched it away.

I looked away and ran down the hallway.
