Chapter 15

If you had told Sam Uley when he was 5, that he was going to be a werewolf, he would have just said, "what's a werewolf?" If you had asked him when he was 10, he would have said, "That's so cool." Looking back now, those children seemed rather ignorant. They didn't understand the full complexity of life yet let alone being a werewolf. 'Ignorance is bliss', he thought. There are times when he wished he was never apart of this life at all. Today was one of those days.

Sam had called the wolf pack and the Cullens. It's never likely to hear those two names in a sentence, especially around La Push, but things happen and situations change. This was important. Seth was important. He and Sam were practically brothers. All the werewolves were. They shared a bond that could never be broken. The bond of their inner thoughts that they had never shared with anyone. And never will.

His pack arrived, hearing his faint plea. Leah and Jacob were behind him, his second in commands. Next came Quil, Embry, Jared and Paul in a triangular formation. They ha never planned it, it just happened. That's what being in a pack meant, being synchronized. Sticking together. One was missing tonight however. Seth. He couldn't be here. Today was about him.

The Cullens arrived on foot. Their speeds conquering the forest. Carlisle, their leader, came forward to greet me.

"What pleasure do we owe this visit? Carlisle asked. He was a gentlemen, he almost made the pack seem primitive.

"It's about my brother. And your daughter." Carlisle's eyes widened at this.

"What has happened?" He asked.

"It's not what has happened, it's what will become of it." The Cullens moved closer to Sam, making the pack uneasy. He told them to hush up.

"If this has to do with my daughter, I would like to be the first to know." When it came to family, the Cullens were a like wolves. Mess with one, an they'll all take you down.

"Seth has imprinted on your daughter, Bree." The wolf pack growled. The Cullens were shocked, all their eyes widened in horror. A werewolf had never imprinted on a vampire before. Carlisle spoke.

"So them it is already too late. Their bonded now. Shall we hide the rest of our children so that you may not inflict your disease upon them?"

"No. We may not be able to take away their feelings, but we can keep them apart. We don't need your vampire blood anywhere near our heritage." Sam concluded. Staying away from someone that your bonded from was tough, he couldn't image staying away from Emily.

"And how do you propose we do that?" Carlisle asked. Sam had no idea. Leah stepped forward, now in her human form and fully clothed.

"We can't keep them apart. Their teenagers. If we tell them not to do it, they'll do it anyway. We need to keep them apart by telling them that that's what's best for the other. They'll be hurt of course, but they'll stay away."

Esme thought. She must take away her daughter from something that she might possibly love? She's so troubled already. A broken heart would only make that worse. But he was a werewolf and they were not like us. 'I'm sorry Bree. But this is for the best', she thought. She can never forgive herself for this. Edward put a hand on her shoulder. He was trying to comfort her. He felt bad. He couldn't imagine what he would do if his daughter fell for a werewolf.

Jacob contemplated the current situation. It seemed as though everybody thought it was a bad thing that two people fell in love. He hardly found that a reason to pout. So what if they were different, they still loved each other, isn't that all that matters? Last time he checked it was the job of the wolf pack to protect people, not to break hearts.

Paul thought this whole thing was ridiculous. Just kill the blood sucker and move on with it. I mean, she was hot, but she wasn't worth all this fuss. All he wanted to do was go home and eat some chips. This nonsense could wait till the morning. It's not like tomorrow their gonna be in a car with the 'Just Married' sign in the back. Knowing Seth, he was probably gonna take it slow.

Leah thought this whole thing was disgusting? I mean a vampire and a werewolf? Absurd. Their worlds are apart for a reason and you can't just decide one day to change sides. That was the natural order of things and the fact that her own brother wants to change that. Well, she'd have to talk to him about that.

"Deal." Carlisle said.

"Deal." Sam said.

This was the first time the wolves and the vampires had a common enemy.

Authors Note: I added a little irony in there with Edward saying he couldn't image what he would do if his daughter fell for a werewolf. And then Jacob things. Hmmmm. Something to worry about in perhaps the next book or later chapters.. I'll decided.
