Chapter 13

I didn't talk to Seth for the next few weeks. He tried to wave and say hi in the hall, but I always turned away. He kept trying to pester me in English, but I ignored him.

I mean soulmate? I barely know the guy. The best I know about him is that he loves to read. And then all of a sudden he springs the fact that were star-crossed lovers on me? That's a little too scary for my taste.

After he told me, I walked back into my house like nothing ever happened. And when Edward came over for dinner, I kept thinking about the fight, so he wouldn't suspect anything. Usually I would tell my family about this type of thing, but I decided against it. I don't know why but this seemed too personal. I didn't need Emmett bugging me about a dog having a crush on me.

I slammed my locker door a little bit too hard. I sighed. This can't be life. My life. I walked to English class where my inevitable meeting with Seth was about to happen. He was already there when I walked in and he smiled as he looked over at me. I sat down in my seat and rolled my eyes.

"Today class, were gonna be starting a new project. You will have to read 'Romeo and Juliet' and write a breakdown of the whole book. Explain, in your own words, why you believe Romeo and Juliet fell in love so quickly. You will be working with the person sitting next to you. No excuses." The class groaned. My eyes were wide open.

"I guess were partners," Seth said.

"Yes, it must be fate." I joked. Looks like I'm gonna have to be seeing a lot more of Seth around.

"We can start working on it today. I have copies of the story at my house and we can begin reading."

"Or, you can give me the copy, and we can read independently until we both finish."

"Where's the fun in that?" He laughed. He had such a nice laugh...

"There is none, but it's better for our concentration." He moved closer to me.

"I'll tell you what. You can come over to my house to get the book and I'll let you read it by yourself. But you have to go on 5 dates with me and if by the end of the dates, you don't like me, then I'll never talk to you again and you lose your partner. And if you do, then we'll consider a 6th date. Deal?"

"That is not a fair trade. My grade might suffer."

"You wanna read it by yourself or not?"

"Fine. Deal. When is the first date?"

"Saturday. The movie theater. Be there."

"I will." He moved closer to my face and smiled. That smile made me melt on the inside. I dropped my guard. All I wanted to do was kiss him again. He moved back. The bell rang.

"See you later alligator."

"Peace." I said as I walked out the door. I needed to get away from Seth.
