Chapter 4

Seth arrived at school at exactly 8 o'clock. He had hoped he could read a little bit before school, that always calmed him down. He sniffed the air. It was the beginning of September and all he could smell was wet leaves and the overwhelming scent of gas. Some of kids are gonna start pulling in soon.

Oh no. Oh no oh no oh no. It's too early, they can't be coming.. Its the first day of school dumbo, of course everyone's coming early. That would mean he has to socialize. And talk. And meet new people.

Suddenly, he had the urge to run. Run as far from this place as possible, bury his head in a book and hide under his bed. He couldn't take the pressure. He had never had to worry about fitting in because he had grown up with the same people, in the same place, with the same sense of security. It can't all change.

Change. He needed to calm down before he changed. He didn't need to make a bad impression on his history teacher by ripping off their head. Breathe, he told himself, just breathe. It's not like their gonna kill you.

Vampires! Seth has almost forgotten about them. And of course they went

to the same high school as him. Great. Why did his mom have to send him to a school where there were creatures who sucked blood? You'd think she'd be a little more overprotective.

Some students had begun to arrive and were now filing into the school. Seth could smell the fear, see the anxious faces. It made him a little bit more relaxed. At least he wasn't the only one who was nervous. 8:20, his watch read. He was going to be late.
