Chapter 26
What have I done? How could I have hurt the only girl I loved? I was being stubborn, that's my problem, I shouldn't have gone to the bowling alley in the first place, and maybe I wouldn't have broken her heart, and she'd still be mad at me. But at least I'd still have her. We had a promise: I was hers and she was mine, and I had broken my part of the bargain.
I should have finished the project at home, I should have never talked to Missy, I should have never tried to make Bree mad. I just wanted to show her how I felt. That I was angry at her for being so stubborn at the diner, but I never meant for Missy to kiss me. I never meant to hurt her feelings and now she was gone. Seth dropped down to a nearby log in the woods, and let the tears roll down his cheeks. All he wanted to do was change, but the last thing he would do was give his sister satisfaction from his broken heart.
I decided to walk to Jacob's house, he was the only other person who understood what it was like to love a vampire girl. He was on his couch laughing at whatever was on tv. I knocked on the window, and he looked up. He walked to the door, and opened it.
"Hey Seth. What's wrong?" I sniffed.
"I've made a terrible mistake."
"What kind of mistake?"
"Can I come inside?" I asked. Jacob opened the door wider and I walked in. I took a seat at the dining room table with a thump and a sigh. Jacob just stared at me for a few seconds.
"Seth... What did you do?"
"I-Bree and I had a fight the other day, after we left the diner. She was so mad at me for stopping her and I was mad because.. She's so stubborn. It's adorable on her." I almost smiled at that distant memory. Jacob kept waiting. "And I wanted to make her so mad. I saw how angry she was when she came to talk to me, I just wanted to make her feel how I felt. I hated the way she acted."
"When who came to talk to you?" I sniffed again.
"A girl named Missy in our school. Bree thinks she's a slut."
"I see. You made her jealous."
"Yeah I did. Well, tonight I went to the bowling alley with her and her friends and she kissed me." I stopped. "And Bree saw." I started sobbing again, it was ridiculous. "I broke her heart Jacob! I didn't mean to. I don't even care about that girl, I only care about Bree." Jacob was taking in the story.
"So tell her that."
"I've tried. I told her that I loved her and I couldn't live without her. She didn't believe me." I wiped the inevitable tears from my eyes, Jacob looked sympathetic. His cell phone rang and he picked it up.
"Hey Nessie." He said looking right at me. She was gonna tell him, I already knew. "Hey baby. How was school today?" "It was boring and dull. Just like everyday." He was keeping his cool. "You should go to school with me, I could change that." "How so?" Oh God, they were being flirty and Jacob was biting his lip. He realized I was listening and cleared his throat. They continued talking for the next hour with each other saying something deep or flirty to the other. I could tell Jacob loved talking to her, he seemed to light up just by hearing her voice. I left him alone after he asked her, "What are you wearing?" Then, they spent another hour trying to figure out who was gonna hang up first. I grabbed his phone and did it for him.
"Really?" I asked him with a hint of annoyance.
"Sorry, I just get a little carried away talking to her."
"You really love her don't you?"
"Yeah, I do." Jacob said with a lovestruck sigh. Man, he had it bad. I remembered Bree and started tearing up again. Jacob grabbed my shoulder. "Sorry man. It's alright. She'll forgive you."
