Every day whenever I was being tested on, Copper would come in and give me pain killers. I was grateful. It made the tests way easier to handle. Now, in my chest, back, and arms, there are giant plugs to stick tubes into. They always hurt.
"So Coke, were doing a different test today." Dr. Mandrake said.
"What do you mean?" I'd ask.
Dr. Mandrake had unlatched me from the bed, so I sat up.
Dr. Mandrake had stuck a tube inside the plug in my chest and attached it to a small container. He then turned a knob on it. My eyes widened as I noticed the black fluid flowing through the tubes to my chest. I'd flinch as soon as the liquid got there. I'd gasp as it took most of the air out of my lungs. I'd inhale deeply, starting to cough.
Pressure started to build up in my chest slightly. I instantly felt sick. I'd keel over and fell to the hard, tile floor, hitting it with a hard thump. Rolling onto my side, groaning in pain. I'd gag a bit, my body convulsing. I then threw up mouthfuls of the black sludge.
"You need to endure the pain, Coke." Dr. Mandrake said, standing over me.
I'd push myself into my knees shakily, but threw up once more, falling forward and catching myself with my hands. There was a great pain in my chest, feeling as if someone has broken all of my ribs.
I'd scream, but threw up again, cutting it short.
The same words soon kept repeating in my head.
"You are an idiot."
"I'm an idiot- how could I let this happen to myself."
I'd hang my head, looking down at my hands. My fingers looked almost claw-like. I'd look at Dr. Mandrake, smiling slightly. He'd back up, his face had the look of fear.
I'd slowly get to my feet, but fell back to my knees, throwing up more.
Dr. Mandrake looked at the machine that pumped the black fluid inside of me and ran to it. Out of my control, I grabbed his leg and dragged him underneath me. I glared at him, Though I could barely tell it was him- my vision was blurred and anything that moved had delayed black lines around it. I soon realized both of my eyes were secreting the black liquid.
I'd look back down at Dr. Mandrake. He started to scream and fight against me. But it was soon cut off by a sickening crunch. I had pressed my hand against his face and pushed. Pushed, pushed as hard as I could until I broke his skull. I looked at my hand, covered in his blood. I started to panic. What have I done??
I got up, turning around to look at the machine. It run to it, trying to find an off switch. The more of this stuff was inside of me, the more I wasn't myself. I looked all over but couldn't find one. I soon gave up and just smashed it. The liquid stopped flowing into my chest. I sighed in relief.
"PUT YOUR HANDS UP!" Someone screamed.
I froze, slowly raising my hands and turning around. Security was behind me, two guards to be exact. They both had their guns pointed at me. They were built, my body isn't strong enough to take them down.
"What's going on here?" Someone asked from behind the guards.
It was... Copper.
"Stand back Dr. Collymor, this patient is out of their mind." One of the guards said, holding his arm out so Copper couldn't pass.
"Excuse me, I am of higher rank than you so I order you to stand down." He'd say, pushing the guards arm away and walking forward.
"Dr. Collymor- wait!" The other guard reached out, but Copper moved to the side.
"Sit on the bed, Coke." He'd say calmly, gently taking my hand and leading me to sit down.
I'd look at the guards, they seemed angry. Copper then looked at me, then the guards, glaring at them.
"Leave." He'd say, waving his hand.
They stood there for a moment longer
"I said to leave!" He'd yell, letting go of my hand and facing the guards.
They quickly nodded and left the room, closing the door behind them.
Copper turned around and faced me as I say in the bed.
"Copper I- I'm sorry-" I'd start.
"Stop, you shouldn't be sorry. Alexander isn't the best doctor." He'd say, sighing as he leaned down to examine the body on the ground.
"Alexander?" I'd ask.
"Dr. Mandrake."
After a couple minutes, Copper walked over to me and sat beside me. He took out a screwdriver and started to unlatch the tube from my chest. It was painful, but he was helping me.
"Copper- why do you want to help me?" I'd ask.
He didn't look at me, only continued to unscrew, "You know, just.. reasons." He'd say.
Once copper finished unscrewing the tube from my chest, he looked deep into my eyes. Probably examining them. He'd reach over and grabbed a paper towel from the nightstand beside the bed.
"Keep your eyes open, it may hurt a small bit." He'd say.
Copper then started to dab the paper towel on my eyes. I'd hiss slightly, but I realized he was trying to get the black goo off of them. After trying and failing, he got a new idea.
"Go to the faucet, in the bathroom." He'd say.
I nodded, got up, and stumbled over there. After that, he turned on the tub and carefully moved my face under it, water falling into my eyes. It stung like a living hell.
I soon closed my eyes and he pulled me back up. He rubbed the water off with a towel, telling me to open my eyes. So I did.
"What-" he'd start.
My vision was awkward- like I was seeing three things at once. I blinked multiple times, wondering what was going on.
"Coke stop blinking for a sec-" he'd say, leaning forward and holding my left eye open.
There was two of him- what the hell?
"Ok, Coke. Uhm, not sure how to explain this. Maybe showing you would be better?" He'd say, leading me to the bed and then walking off.
I'd sit on the bed, slightly swinging my legs. It was a couple minutes before Copper came back. He was carrying something in the shape of a rectangle.
"What's that?" I'd ask.
"A mirror. I couldn't find a hand-held one so I just brought the small one from the bathroom." He'd answer.
Copper then lifted up the mirror and turned it to face me. I'd recoil from my own reflection, thinking it was a complete stranger. I looked way different from the last time I saw myself.
I had dark bags under my eyes, my left one had two pupils as well- my hair was a mess. My lightish grey face had turned darker and so did the red on my arms. In the middle of my chest was the weird plug, the same of the backs of my shoulders. I looked thin and sickly. Seeming very malnourished, which I was..
"What-" I'd start.
"Don't worry Coke- we can make you better." Copper interrupted.
I looked at him. He could tell I didn't like my new look.
"Hey, it's ok! No need to worry." He'd say, putting down the mirror and rubbing my back lightly.
"I want to go home.." I'd whisper, looking down at my hands.
"You'll be home soon-" he'd say.
I didn't believe him.
