Ethan's POV (Chapter 15)
I ran. I didn't know where I was going, I just kept running. I begin to get tired so I decide to find a place to rest. I observe my surroundings and notice a cave. "Perfect." I think to myself. I walk towards the cave. I smell an odd scent surrounding the cave, but I was so tired that I didn't think much of it. I walk into the cave and lay down, eventually closing my eyes and eventually dozing off. I open my eyes to see that it's day. I get up and notice that the scent has gotten stronger. I walk out of the cave and decide to find the cause of the strange scent. I looked around for a bit till I saw a bear, a dead one. "What could have killed a bear?" I wondered to myself. I take a closer look to see bite marks all over it. It didn't look like animal bite marks... it looked similar to a human's...could this be...the work of a zombie.? It didn't make since normal zombies only eat human flesh.
Selah's POV
I slowly open my eyes to see the sun blinding me. It took a few blinks to get my eye adjusted. I look around to see everyone still sleeping. While I'm looking, something catches my attention.. I notice red liquid around Dakota and Ja'khi's mouths... "I'll ask them about it later.." I think to myself. I get up and walk out of the shelter. I decided to go search for some food. As I'm searching for food, I come across a cave. I notice some footprints that were around the cave. "Could they be Ethan's footprints?" I think to myself. I follow the footprints...each step I take, I get more and more anxious... I freeze when I see a bear..but...it's dead?..Nothing could have killed a bear... it must've been a zombie.. I know that Ethan couldn't have done it because he didn't have control and only ate humans... only a half-zombie could have eaten this bear... I think back to the sight of the red liquid on Ja'khi and Dakota's face.... Could they have done this..? I slowly back away from the bear corpse but I bump into something.. I turn around to see Ethan. I take off running at the sight of him. I can hear his footsteps behind me. "Being chased by a bloodlusted zombie isn't good at all.." I think to myself. I hide behind a thick tree so I can get out of Ethan's sight. He runs to the left while I keep running forward to get back to the group. When I finally make it back I decide to walk over to Dakota and Ja'khi, who are still asleep. I take a closer look at the red liquid on their faces.. It was blood. No other liquid was that deep of a red. I back away slowly. But then I notice that summer and Nevaeh had waken up.
