Chapter 17: The Camping Trip

It's been a week ever since the trio experienced the huge storm. Now, they are gonna go on a camping trip together.....to get out of the house for awhile.

Chalice: You almost ready, boys?

Cuphead: Almost. How about you, Mugman?

Mugman: Same.

The younger mug packed up his stuff and went downstairs to where Chalice and Cuphead is.

Mugman: Now I'm ready.

Later, out in the woods......

Chalice: Ah, nature. We needed this.

Cuphead: Yeah. After all we have been through for the past few weeks, we needed a break.

Mugman: Yeah.

Chalice: We're here.

The trio found a clearing near a few trees and bushes.

Cuphead: Whoa, this is a nice spot! We can see the stars from up here tonight.

Chalice: Yep.

Chalice puts her stuff down near her friends'.

Chalice: Imma go and gatter some firewood and rocks. You two set up camp for tonight.

Chalice went in the woods.

The bros setted up camp while Chalice grabs some wood and rocks. Later, the camp is set and ready.

Cuphead: Phew! Finally done.

Chalice: You two done already? It's only been an hour.

Cuphead: Yeah......

Mugman: So.....what do you guys want to do?

Chalice: Someone has to watch the campsite while two of us go explore somewhere.

Cuphead: I'll stay. I've had enough adventure for awhile.

Mugman: Yeah. All of us have been through alot.

Chalice: Me and Mugman will go explore for a bit. We won't be long, okay? We'll be back before it gets dark, okay? In the meantime, try to get a spark going on the firewood.

Cuphead: Alright.

With Mugman and Chalice, the two of them walked around the forest.

Mugman: It's so beautiful.....

Chalice: It sure is.

Mugman sat by a stream and Chalice sat down next to him.

Chalice: So.....what do you want to talk about?

Mugman: I don't know......

Chalice: This might be personal, but....how did Cuphead get autophobia? I uneerstand if you don't want to tell me.

Mugman: As long as Cuphead is not around.....it's fine. I'll tell you.

Mugman looks down at the stream.

Mugman: It all started when we were younger. Before we met Elder Kettle. Our parents were still alive at the time. Me and Cuphead were born at the same time but Cuphead is slightly older than me. There was a war going on and our father had to leave us to go fight. Our father sent us to safety before he went to fight. Our mother ran away to safety with me and Cuphead in her arms. Two days later, she wasn't feeling too well. She didn't have enough strength to take care of herself or us. So, she sent us to Elder Kettle, so he can take care of us. Cuphead looked up at our mother and he has this worried expression on his face when he saw our mother smiling tearfully. He started crying and reaching out for her. She holded his hand gently and told him it's gonna be okay and she will always be with Cuphead and me. Just not physically. He couldn't stop crying. Me, on the other hand, didn't cry much as a baby. I holded Cuphead sidely to comfort him. Our mother saw this and smiled. She sent us to Elder Kettle's house and knocked on the door. She quickly ran away before Elder Kettle can answer it. Two years later, Cuphead's phobia started to kick in. We were almost three at the time. I was playing with some blocks while Cuphead was running around. We started walking at one, so we we're be able to walk at the time. Then, Cuphead started to look around and realized no one was there. He sat on the floor, alone. He started crying. I noticed this and walked over to him. I hugged him and told him it's gonna be okay.....I'm still here and there's nothing that can do to change it. Years passed and Cuphead got alot better. He completely forgot about his phobia. But I guess when I got kidnapped by the Devil, his phobia started to come back. Luckily you were there for him, so he wasn't completely scared.

Chalice: Yeah.

Mugman: And that's how Cuphead got autophobia.

Chalice: Wow, I had no idea you guys you had to go through something like that. How did you know all this?

Mugman: Elder Kettle told me. He didn't tell Cuphead, though......

Chalice: Why?

Mugman: He didn't want to trigger his past memories. And his phobia.

Chalice looks up at the sky.

Chalice: It's starting to get dark. Should we head back?

Mugman: Yeah.

Meanwhile, at the campsite........

Cuphead: (snores)

Cuphead is resting on a log.

Mugman: Cuphead?

Mugman notices his brother resting on a log.

Mugman: Dang, how long have we been gone?

Chalice: I don't know. And looks like he had a fire going. Probably exhausted from trying to make the fire.

Mugman: Yeah.

Later, after waking Cuphead up, the trio setted up their sleeping bags on the ground. They got in their sleeping bags and looks up at the sky.

Cuphead: It's so beautiful out tonight.

Chalice: (yawns) You said it.

Chalice fell asleep but the bros stayed awake. Mugman turns his head to his big brother.

Mugman: Cups?

Cuphead: Yeah, Mugs?

Mugman: How are you feeling?

Cuphead: I guess I'm feeling okay. I don't know.

Cuphead sat up in his sleeping bag to rub his eyes.

Mugman: Are you sure you're okay?

Cuphead: Y-yeah.....

Cuphead started to tear up a little. Mugman gently wraps his arms around his brother.

Mugman: It's okay, Cups. Just let it all out.

Cupheaf silently cries in Mugman's shoulder and Mugman pats his back in comfort.

Mugman: That's it. Let it all out.

Later, after that, Cuphead fell asleep. Mugman gently lays him back down and Cuphead curls up in his sleeping bag in his sleep. Mugman lays in his sleeping bag, still awake. He looks up at the stars with a soft smile.

Mugman: Night, Elder Kettle. I promise I will look after Cuphead. You need some rest after dealing with our crap all these years. You needed this......

Mugman's eyes started to tear up a little.

Mugman: I miss you.....hope you're doing great up there.....

Mugman curls up in his sleeping bag and falls asleep.

Phew! That took alot of typing and trying to keep my eyes open. I'm tired as hell and trying to finish this chapter. Anyways, see ya in the next chapter! BAI! ♡♡♡♡♡
