AMERICA's car was parked outside of Cassie's apartment building for hours. She sat up tall in the driver's seat, pressing her index finger to the screen of her cell phone every fifteen minutes to keep her tired eyes on the time. It was ten o'clock at night, and the sky was dark. Tiny droplets of rain had already started to squeeze their way out of the clouds, and make their way onto the windshield of America's car. She should've been home by now, resting her eyes for the problems that tomorrow would bring. But, she couldn't sleep. Not when she knew there was something for her to do.
America watched the droplets form perfect circles before they eventually became distorted and streamed down the glass to form almost microscopic puddles on the hood of her car. She dug her hand into the large bag of hot Cheetos occupying her passenger seat and pulled out two. As she brought them to her mouth slowly, she forced herself to eat. She'd thrown up almost everything that she'd had today, including the crackers Ace made her eat back at his house hours ago.
Her leg was beginning to cramp.
She opened her car door and let it dangle out in the rain. Her black boot glistened from the sheets of rain that were now pouring down from above. In an instant, the street was flooded with large pools of liquid. Just how she liked it. She enjoyed the feeling of the wind brushing past her face, filling the car up with fresh air, and inhaled softly.
If she knew that Cassie would be out all day, she probably would have chosen a more quick-witted approach to the situation. She contemplated leaving, and returning at a time that she saw fit, but that would mean that sitting here waiting for her for over two hours would've all been for nothing. Time was definitely winding down, and she'd wasted way too much of her own precious time to give up now. It was now or never.
"Where the fuck is this bitch at?" she whispered to herself.
She was startled by an incoming call on her cellphone. The vibration was so loud against the silence that surrounded her that it almost sounded like those pesky alarms that she had to wake up to every morning before school.
