track #37: Another Lifetime — Nao
"The mightiest power of death is not that it can make people die, but that it can make the people you left behind want to stop living. That's what happens with love. It ends. By death or by separation. It's weird how when you lose who you love in life, everything you do becomes meaningless, as if you were living for them."
ACE MANAGED to knock a box of cigarettes out of a man's hand from the harsh shove he gave his shoulder on his way out the door. The lights were brighter up close. Red. White. Blue. His body didn't feel like his own as he ran around the side of the police cruiser. He stopped moving when he saw America laid out on the ground, deep bullet holes covering her chest from the heavy bullets that were tossed into her. Her blood painted the snow in an odd cloud like shape.
He pushed his hood away from his head in disbelief. The closer he got to her the weaker he became. The officer turned his gun over to Ace next. With repetition, he sent out strict commands for Ace to stop moving, to place his hands behind his head, and to obey his orders as if Ace were a dog doing poorly in training. Ace ignored him. He kept walking until he was standing above America, staring down at her for as long as he could before he was falling to his knees and reaching for her hand.
