track #21 : Part II (On the Run) — JAY Z & Beyoncé
"Who wants that perfect love story, anyway?"
AMERICA BUSTED her bedroom door open and made a mad dash for her closet. Without thinking, she snatched up two empty duffel bags and stuffed the both of them up with clothes, underwear and other necessities that she could think of packing off the top of her head. She replaced last night's tight, little black dress with some comfortable clothing and slipped her feet into some sneakers. Her heart was racing and she couldn't breathe from all of the exhaustive movements she made, crawling across the floor to grab up shoes and jewelry that she couldn't leave without.
She was just about done packing up when her cellphone rang.
She walked over to the phone laying on her mattress and stared down at the screen. The unknown number caused a rack of nerves to billow in the pit of her stomach. She bit on her lip and picked it up and hit the decline button to silence the phone completely. The rush down to the first floor of her apartment felt longer than usual. She pulled the hood of her sweater over her head and made a run for Ace's car that was idling out front.
America hurled the heavy duffels into the backseat of the car, then hopped into the passenger seat with haste. Ace already had his hood pulled over his head and lifted his chin to peer up into the rear-view mirror every so often to catch a glimpse of what was behind him. The car was on the road, and America couldn't stop looking over at him. She itched the palm of her hand and opened and closed her mouth several times, fearing that if she were to speak, she'd irritate him.
