~Lennox~
Well, Zahara isn't going to like this, and that is putting it mildly. Imagine my surprise to get a frantic mindlink telling me there is an issue in the dining room. We are a peaceful pack for the most part, and we have strict expectations regarding how pack members are treated by each other. There should never be an issue in the dining room, yet here we are.
I get to the dining room to see a commotion in the back, but what really gets me is that no one is helping. Everyone in the room is acting like nothing is happening. No one is up trying to help out or anything. Then I see who is involved, and I am livid. How in the world is it that Cory is being harassed by those losers? I know that no one has stepped up, partly because it is the terrible trio that is causing the issue. These three irritate me like no other, but we can't rid them from the pack when no one wants to step up and point the finger at them. The lookout is always Justin. I feel like he just hangs with them to have a group of friends. He is actually not as bad as the other two, but he will end up reaping the same consequences. The muscle is Len, and I swear, the more muscle he has, the fewer brain cells. He truly isn't the sharpest pencil in the box, and I think that Frankie uses that to his advantage. Frankie is the ring leader, always in the middle of it all and always the brains of the operation.
As soon as they hear me yell out, Justin looks down embarrassed, Len drops Cory's arms, and Frankie turns to face me with a sickly fake smile on his face. I slowly stalk toward the three, and at least Len and Justin have enough sense to shrink smaller as I get closer. Frankie has always been a cocky piece of shit, and that, clearly, won't change today. "Ah, Lennox, how are you?" Fake voice to go with the fake smile.
"That's future Beta Lennox to you. I ask again, what do you think you are doing?" I notice the contempt that flashes across Frankie's face, but I don't comment.
"We were just welcoming the new guy to the pack. Right guys?" Frankie looks at Justin and Len but only gets a mumbled answer in return. I shake my head and take a look at Cory. He looks eerily calm, and that worries me. He should be angry or even scared, but there is nothing on his face at all. There is so much about his life that I don't know, and I don't even think Zahara knows. We really need to figure out exactly who Cory is.
"Get out.....all three of you. NOW!" Justin and Len scramble to rush to the doorway, and Frankie takes his time. "I suggest you three don't go too far because I'm sure that future Alpha Zahara will want to see you three soon." I get a scoff in response as the three exits the room. I take a seat across from Cory and watch him. He seems almost trance-like, and I'm not sure if I should get a doctor or not.
Cory seems to snap to and moves his chair back up to the table. He looks at me and looks startled to see me sitting in front of him. "What are you doing here, Lennox?" I just stare at him. What the hell is going on? Did Cory have some out-of-body experience or something?
"Are you ok?" Cory looks at me curiously for a minute, and I swear I see a flash of fear, but it was too fleeting to really be sure.
"Yeah, I'm good. Just figured I'd get some food. I was pretty hungry." I nod at him but don't respond. I really don't know what to say to him right now.
"Is everything ok?" I hear Zahara, but I don't turn to look at her. I watch Cory light up and turn to face her.
"Hey, there you are. I was just eating. How'd your meetings go?" Cory seems reasonably calm, but I just don't understand how this is the way that it is. He should be upset or something. This is starting to be unnerving.
"Everything went well. I'm sorry that I took so long." Zahara leans down and kisses Cory on his forehead while eyeing me questionably.
What is it, Lennox? You don't look so good.
Uh, I think we need to talk. I'm a bit....concerned.
Is everything okay?
I'm not sure, but you should be able to figure that out.
"We still need to go shopping, Cory." Cory shakes his head while caressing Zahara's hand.
"We don't have to. I know that you're busy and it isn't like I can get anything myself." Zahara shakes her head.
"Cory, we are the halves of the same whole. You are here now, and you need things. We will go, but I just need to meet with Lennox before we go." Cory sighs.
"If that's what you want. I will finish up eating while you meet." Zahara kisses him again and motions for me to follow her. I nod to Cory and get out of my seat. I don't know what will come of our conversation, but I'm truly concerned. Zahara needs to know what she may be getting into, even though I'm not sure of that myself. Zahara will also need to decide what to do with the terrible trio. They have been problematic for a while but haven't done anything to warrant being kicked out of the pack. I have said before that the longer they are allowed to linger, the worse they will get. It is a widely accepted concept, but our laws don't allow for acting on maybes. We need something definite to go on before making any big changes.
Kicking someone out of a pack is a major move that can have deadly consequences. Someone without a pack will become a rogue. The longer one is a rogue, the more likely one will become feral. They lose all of their sense of humanity and become purely animalistic. Rogues are unpredictable and dangerous, and we don't want to create more of them, but we also don't want people in the pack that can't play nice. If anything, after this meeting, Zahara will know what's going on so she can make an informed decision. We will be taking over the pack in about a month, and there is no time like the present to start practicing our roles.
