~Zahara~
Cory is so much stronger than he realizes. He keeps getting thrown curve balls, but he rises above and makes it out the other side. I'm not sure how I would have handled all that Cory has had to deal with.
We sorted through the presented evidence, which is all compelling. Elder Langston has gone through it and has alerted the other elders. Everyone now knows what happened to former Alpha Brian Williams, and it's tragic, to say the least. He picked a woman who he felt would make a good chosen mate. He accepted her son and treated him as his own. The minute he brought in his own son, there was an issue, though.
From the information we gathered, it looks like they decided to end the Alpha's life because of Cory because Cory exists. His existence is a reminder that the Alpha created a child with someone else. The thing about it is that he met his fated mate. The fact that they didn't immediately choose each other is a testament to his loyalty and sense of rightness. It sucks that he stepped out of his marriage, but he gave up his fated mate for his chosen, which isn't something that happens every day.
The entire ordeal has been extremely emotional, and Cory went to try to get some sleep. He spent the late night/early morning running through the woods and then took the time to find out the horrible acts committed against his father. I would have joined him, but I need to wait for Bryn to arrive. We decided to have our current high-ranked members in attendance for today. The Elders will be swearing Cory in as Alpha.
Bryn doesn't take long to arrive at the packhouse. She decided to run the distance since it wasn't too far. I meet Bryn at the door, having not seen her since the night of our ceremony. Bryn wraps me up in a bone-crushing hug the minute she sets eyes on me. "I missed you so much! I'm so glad you're okay." Bryn steps back and starts to examine me. "You ARE okay, right?" I chuckle.
"Yes, Bryn. I'm fine. It was a rough couple of days, but I made it through. Thank you for helping keep everything running while I was away." Bryn shakes his head at me.
"That's my job. I meant the vow I took to you and the pack." Bryn and I walk into the packhouse arm in arm. I get her up to speed along the way. "So we will have a public execution, and Cory will be sworn in, huh?"
"Yeah. It will be a packed day. The worry is how the pack will take to their new Alpha. Cory doesn't have the best history in this pack, and I'm sure that won't be forgotten."
"It doesn't matter how they feel about it. Alpha Cory will be the Alpha here whether they like it or not." I love Bryn and her loyalty; she was the best choice for Gamma. We walk into the Alpha's office, and I can smell Cory there. I thought he would have slept longer. Lennox is in the room, and he gives Bryn a hug. Elder Langston is also in the office.
"This is Bryn Smith, our Gamma. Bryn, this is Elder Langston." They shake hands, and we settle in the room, with me settling on Cory's lap.
"I was speaking with Alpha Cory and Beta Lennox to try to get an idea of how this setup will be. You two will be Alphas to two separate packs. Will you combine them?"
"Cory and I have discussed this. We don't want to have to go through the hassle of trying to figure out what lands are better than the other and where we should settle. We decided that the packs will combine but stay in their respective locations. We are considering purchasing the neutral land between the packs to build a packhouse there. We will leave high-ranked individuals at both locations who will be in charge of the day-to-day." Elder Langston nods and seems to accept this idea.
We hear a knock on the door, and Cory tells them to come in. Bryn automatically stiffens and starts to look nervous. "Mate," we hear from the door. I turn to look and see that it's Beta Cyrus. OMG! Beta Cyrus is mated to Bryn?! Beta Cyrus scans the room, and his eyes settle on Bryn. He takes a step back and looks scared. Bryn looks at Cyrus, and she seems nervous herself. This isn't looking good so far.
"Uh, I think I will go get some coffee." Elder Langston stands and heads toward the door.
"I will go with you," Lennox mumbles. They both leave, and neither Bryn nor Cyrus has moved. I look at Cory and wonder what we should do.
What's going on with them? Shouldn't they be happy?
I'm not sure what's going on. I know Cyrus has always hoped to find his fated mate.
Bryn too. I'm not sure what's going on right now, though.
"I....I'm sorry." Cyrus takes another step back. "I'm sure I'm not what you expected; I am quite older." Ah, so that's the issue Cyrus is having. He is older than Bryn, but I wouldn't think he is that much older. He doesn't look like he's that much older; then again, that's the benefit of being a wolf.
Bryn gets out of her seat and faces Cyrus. "It....it isn't a problem. I....I just didn't expect to find you right now. I, kind of, have a .......a boyfriend." Bryn looks down, looking embarrassed. I knew that Bryn had dated here and there, but I didn't know that she was dating someone at the moment.
"Of course you do; you're gorgeous. I understand. We should get through the......the rejection now." Bryn takes a few steps forward, but she is still a distance away from Cyrus.
"I....I don't want to reject you, though." Cyrus looks up at Bryn. A small smile plays on his lips, and he starts to close the gap between himself and Bryn. They stand mere feet apart and stare at each other. I tap Cory's arm to get his attention.
I think we should leave them alone for a bit.
I agree. Follow me out. We get up and make our way out of the office, Bryn and Cyrus not noticing our departure in the slightest. It looks like I need to get a new Gamma.
