~Laslo~

I left the ladies alone after that. I just couldn't stomach arguing with either of them anymore. I spent a few hours making sure everything was taken care of at the satellite location and getting in contact with my people at home. I needed to make sure everything was still running smoothly. Hopefully, it won't take long to get Zahara on board and then I can bring her back as the Luna. In the meantime, I will have to go back home to keep up appearances and make sure everything is okay.

Alpha, we just got word that Elder Langston has been on the premises.

What is he doing there? Has he been to the cells?

No, it seems as if the cells have been untouched, but he is asking about you and his people. I sigh. I wasn't ready for this yet, but I guess it's good that I get to dictate the narrative.

Make the call....better yet, make it a video call. Let's go ahead and get this over with. Hopefully, we can get him to go home quickly.

I make my way to the SUV we have in the area. It is on a gravel road that leads up to the woods right before we get to the caves. I have had workers connect two of the 5 caves and eventually, they will all be connected. Making the video call in the SUV will be way more believable.

My worker brings me the laptop, and I wait for the connection. It takes a few rings before I see Elder Langston come into view. "Elder Langston, what a surprise. I didn't expect you to be in town."

"That's clear since neither you or your mom are on packlands. I can't find my men either. What exactly is going on?"

"We had to make a trip to handle some business and you men volunteered to accompany us."

"What business would you need to handle that would require everyone gone. The only person you left here is your Beta Cyrus; you even took your Gamma. What happens if there were to be an attack while you were away?" Why the hell is this man asking so many questions? I mean, I know he isn't stupid, but I didn't expect him to try to break down my story like this.

"Beta Cyrus is more than capable of handling anything that could come up. I have faith in his abilities; that's why he is my Beta. I don't really like mom to travel without our Gamma with her, and she insisted on being involved in this. I know it seems weird, but we are a tight group." The elder says nothing but eyes me through the camera. If I were someone who worries easily, I would feel the heat of his gaze. Since I know he has nothing on me; there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

"I need to speak with my men and for some reason, I can't erach them by phone."

"I'm sorry about that. We are in an area that has, really, no reception. This is why we are on a video call. It was easier to make this happen. We should be back in a day or so. You can always come back then." The Elder sighs and looks irritated, but I know I got him.

"Fine! You had better be back with my men. As soon as you guys are in range, have them call me." I do everything I can to keep the smirk off my face. "Beta Cyrus, get my car ready. I will be leavnign here shortly." I hear Cyrus respond, and I know I'm almost home free. "I'm serious, Alpha. I want to see you back very soon."

"Of course, sir." The elder gives me one more look and hangs up the call. A smile breaks out on my face, and I start to become giddy. This is all falling into place. Pretty soon, I will have everything I want, including Cory dead.

~Cory~

The minute I hear his voice, I want to rip his throat out. Lennox had to practically sit on me to make sure I didn't give us away. Luckily, we found the loyal members that Laslo left behind, and once we neutralized them, we were able to go around freely. We have them locked up, and we have them make the necessary reports when needed.

Elder Langston closes the laptop and looks around the room. "Well, everyone, it looks like Laslo is none the wiser, and we should be able to get to him tonight as planned." The group starts to discuss the plan, and I tune out. It isn't that a plan isn't needed or that I don't care about it. I just know what my role will be regardless of whatever plan they put in place. I will go in, and I will get my mate. I just hope that Laslo insists on standing in my way so I can take him down as well. Either way, Zahara is coming home, and Laslo will be ended.

I wish my father were here so I could ask him why he tied himself to that woman. Why didn't he just stay with my mom? I would love to know exactly what happened with that, and it may be time to find out. A hand on my arm brings me out of my thoughts. "We are going to eat. You should join us." Cyrus has always looked out for me, and I'm forever grateful.

"Tell me about my mom and dad Cyrus. You were my dad's best friend. You have to know what happened with that." Cyrus sighs and takes a seat on the couch next to me. His response makes me nervous as to what's to come, but I really want to know.

"I only met your mom once. That one time left a lasting impression on me." Cyrus sits back and gets comfortable. "We were at a conference, and there were a lot of packs there. Margaret didn't want to attend, so it was just your dad and me. He started acting funny the first night there, and things got worse when we went down to dinner." Cyrus chuckles. "Your parents practically tore the dining room apart trying to leave to get to each other. They had to meet out back, away from prying eyes. They were mates, and he was devastated because he had Margaret at home. Theirs was a marriage that benefited her home pack, and since the elders were hounding your dad to get a Luna, he agreed. He never thought he'd find his fated mate at some conference. It didn't seem to be a problem, though, because your mom was the Alpha of her pack, and she wouldn't have been able to leave anyway. The packs are very far from each other, so there was no real solution. They simply decided to have the weekend and then part ways." Cyrus leans forward, elbows on his knees.

"They were inseparable that weekend. Every waking moment was spent together, and when they were with others, they kept things quiet. It was hard for your dad to leave at the end of the weekend, but he valued the vow he made to the pack and Margaret." I turn to Cyrus, waiting for him to continue. Your dad didn't find out about you until your mom died. The idea was that he would raise you, and you would take over your mother's pack. She didn't have any other kids or a chosen mate. She had a brother who took over, if I remember correctly. You were sent here to be kept safe, yet we failed at that."

"My mother's pack, what is it called?"

"Uh.....it's....." Cyrus looks to be trying hard to remember the name of the pack my mother led at one point. His head snaps up, and he snaps his fingers. "It's the Lotus Pack." I had never heard of that pack before. I would love to get more information about that pack and my mother. Once I get Zahara back, maybe we can do that together. Cyrus stands up and starts to walk to the door. "You really should eat something to be ready for tonight."

"I know and I will. I'm going to sleep first." Cyrus nods and turns to walk out of the office. "Cyrus?" He turns to me. "Thank you for the information and thank you fo everything you tried to do for me growing up." Cyrus shakes his head.

"I didn't do enough, but I hope you give me the opportunity to make that right." Cyrus leaves the room before I can answer.
