Spooktober 2022 Day Fourteen: ScarsPeter loved being out at the Stark Cabin. It was the calm of the storm. The storm was the entire world. It was a chaotic mess. They were still trying to figure out how everything was working and how they would return to normal normal instead of their new normal. It was chaos, despite it already been months since everyone had come back.
To avoid said Storm, Peter had been coming out to the cabin a lot. Tony and Pepper didn't mind at all. Neither did their young daughter, Morgan, who adored Peter. She proclaimed that they were brother and sister within five minutes of meeting Peter. He didn't mind. Actually, he loved it. He adored Morgan just as much as Morgan adored him. May thought it was great that he was getting that interactive time with them. She would come out occasionally, but she mainly stayed in the city helping F.E.A.S.T. however she could.
Today was an extremely calm day. Morgan was napping in her room after lunch. Pepper was in the kitchen, already preparing for dinner. Tony was reading some book on the couch and Peter was just sitting there. He was eating up the calm as much as he could. He would have to leave in a couple of days again, which he was dreading. When he left the cabin, it felt like an entire world away. It was so different from the city. Never a siren to hear. Never people yelling drunkenly on the street at ungodly hours of the night. Never car horns blaring for no reason. It was so quiet out here. You actually heard birds. You actually could hear crickets. You could actually see the stars. It was an entirely different world.
Peter wasn't sure when he closed his eyes, but they opened when a small child jumped on his lap. He groaned, opening his eyes to see Morgan smiling at him. "Do you want to go swimming in the lake," she asked happily.
Despite just waking up, Peter nodded. "Sure, yeah." Even tired, he couldn't say no to her.
She squealed and jumped off him, running over to Tony. "Daddy! Come help me pick out a bathing suit to go swimming with Peter!" She started tugging on the bottom of Tony's shirt, disrupting him.
Tony looked up to Peter, making sure he was okay with this. When Peter nodded, Tony put down his book and tossed Morgan up into the air. She squealed with pure delight. "Let's go dress the princess for her battle with the sea monster."
Peter stood up, stretching for a moment before making his way to his room. He opened the door and hunted for a pair of swimming trunks. He found some in his dresser drawers, which he forgot he had sometimes. It was a good thing Tony had prepared them, or else he might have had to tell Morgan that swimming was a no go. They were just a plain pair of black swimming trunks. He didn't mind. He'd wear swimming trunks with Marty with his clown costume on if it meant he could make Morgan happy.
He went into the bathroom and got himself a towel. He grabbed Morgan one of her hooded towels as well. He grabbed the one with Elsa on it. Or maybe it was Anna. He couldn't remember. He mixed the sisters up a lot. It annoyed Morgan, but she still would explain which one was which every time. That's what he gets for not watching the movies.
By the time he was downstairs, Morgan was waiting anxiously on the porch. Tony had also moved to the porch, now reading his book outside. It was probably to keep an eye on them while they swam. Retired or not, he was just as protective as he had before. Peter's heart warmed with the familiarity.
"You ready, squirt." Peter walked up to Morgan, playing with her hair for a moment.
She swatted Peter's hands off of her head and smiled up at him. "Yeah. You were slow." She barely gave Peter enough time to toss the towels on the railing before starting to drag him towards the lake.
