My clothes caught on the brambles that I was hiding behind and I crouched low to the ground. I balanced myself on the balls of my feet, getting ready to run if I needed to. I tried to catch my breath, focusing on taking slow and steady breaths through my nose and out through my mouth to try and calm myself down, but it wasn't working.
"God Dammit." I whispered, feeling myself break out in a cold sweat.
I lost Calum a few feet back and I couldn't hear him now. Maybe they had him. But I shook my head.
I couldn't afford to think like that.
But, as I heard a gunshot go off in the distance, my heart jumped into my throat and I scrambled off the ground and ran.
All you can do is run.
