Annie's POV

"That was a shame, sweetheart." Alex said, and I felt my heart start to rattle against my rib cage. I tired to break from Luke's hold, but he was too strong, his arms wrapped tight around my waist.

"You bastard." I spat at him, and he smiled, turning to Carter, who was staring at Calum's body, his face emotionless.

"I just got rid of the competition for you, Carter."

"You son of a bitch!" Phoebe yelled at him, and Alex rolled his eyes.

"Come in, Phoebs, he was dead weight, he probably would have been dead in a few hours due to his blood loss." He said, and I felt a fresh wave of tears appear in my eyes. My boyfriend was dead. The boy who I have loved since fifteen, who I was convinced I would marry was dead.

Looking to my other friends, my heart broke again. Ashton's tears had left two long wet streaks down his cheeks, his face turned away from Calum, seeming not being able to look at him. Michael, on the other hand, his sight was fixated on Calum, tears continuing to pour down his cheeks, Phoebe rubbing his arm.

I was pressed up tightly to Luke when I felt something hard in his pocket. Then, everything flew back to me. When we were in the manor, I had slid a gun over to Luke after Carter shot Alex. I turned back around and wrapped my arms around his neck, so I could bring him close to me.

"You've had a gun this whole time?" I whispered, and I felt him stiffen up.

"Yes. I'm sorry I didn't say sooner, but..." he trailed off, and I shook my head, another set of tears starting to fall down my face.

"So what? You're shooting your way out of here?" I asked, and he breathed out slowly.

"No, I'm keeping it until we need it. Annie, please... please trust me," he said, and I nodded, before turning back around. I stared at Alex and a new wave of anger filled my body. I noticed he had a white cloth made into a sling from when Carter had shot him.

"What do I do with all of you now?" Alex asked, and Carter laughed from beside him.

"You already know what you're going to do." He said. Alex eyes darted to him, and he delivered his foot into Carter's stomach, and he fell sideways to the ground, coughing.

I studied him as he was on the ground, he looked tired. I then found myself feeling pity for him. Three years? Three years of this?

"What happened to your friends?" I blurted to Carter, and all eyes fell on me. Alex stared at me, before smiling, turning to Carter.

"You may as well tell her Carter... we'll get everything out in the open before we have to kill you all."

Carter shifted his arms uncomfortably behind his back, lifting himself back up onto his knees and took a deep breath.

"I came here to a party three years ago, with my girlfriend, and two of my other friends. Same thing happened that has happened to you. My friend Daniel was the first to die, shot right in front of us. Then, Harry he... he told me and Lucy to run, he would distract the ones who were chasing us... they must have tortured him, he screamed for so long." He stopped, sniffing, rubbing his cheek on his shoulder.

"Harry." Alex scoffed, nodding his head, "yeah he was a good friend, Carter. No matter how many times he was cut, he wouldn't tell you where you had gone."

Carter's jaw clenched, and his breath was coming out heavy and shaky, but he managed to take a few deep breaths, and continued with his story.

"Then, it was kind of like this." He said, motioning up to the sky. I looked up momentarily, and then had to stop, as tears filled my eyes again, thinking of how Calum took such comfort in it as he died.
