Luke's POV

I followed behind Ashton, my mind whirling.

Grace was dead.

The girl, that I thought I would spend the rest of my life with, was dead.

I wasn't even there when she died... I thought and a new wave of tears appeared in my eyes. I wiped them away quickly as they started to fall down and I felt Annie place a hand on my shoulder from behind. I turned to her and gave her a small smile, and Calum shook his head, tears rimming his own eyes. I held back my pace ever so slightly so I could talk to the both of them.

"So, what's the plan?" I said lowly, and Calum shrugged.

"I don't know," his eyes trained on Ashton, "but I don't like the idea of Ashton being the armed one at the minute," I saw his gaze flick to the gun in Ashton's left hand. He had taken the gun off Calum a while ago.

Makes sense for the one in front to be armed he had grunted at us.

"Ashton," I whispered loudly, and he stopped, but didn't turn around.

"What are we doing?" I said, and he turned his head to look back, but not his body.

"We're keeping moving, that's what you all wanted isn't it?" He said, and I moved forward, placing my hand on his back and he flinched, turning around to confront me.

"I don't need this shit now, Luke."

"Come on Ashton," I tried to move forward to him again, and he moved back again.

"I told you," he said, glaring at me, "back off."

"Ashton, you're spiraling... you just watched your girlfriend die, you really aren't the person to be handling a gun." I said, trying to keep my cool.

"Why not? I was the only one with the balls to do what needed to be done back there."

"Oh come on Ashton! If they hadn't killed Daisy you wouldnt have done it!"

"Fuck you, Luke - while you knocked yourself out during that shit that happened back at the ambush, I killed two of them guys that were going to kill you! I'm doing what I need to do to survive!" Ashton shouted, his voice echoing around the trees.

"Guys, please keep your voices down!" Annie whispered, looking around at the trees.

"So what are you going to do now big man, shoot your way out of this?" I said, Ashton narrowing his eyes at me and taking a step forward.

I knew I was being an asshole. But my heart was shattered, and the only thing I was feeling at the minute was anger, and Ashton was the one who was going to receive the brunt of it.

"If I have to, what else can I lose?" He said, and with those words I softened.

"Ashton - we can't go out there seeking pure revenge. I more than anyone know right now what that is like... but we can't go on a suicide mission." I said, and Ashton looked at the ground, then at the gun in his hand.

He then slowly reached the gun out to me, and I took it from his hand, and I noticed the long tear that fell down his face. I moved towards him, hesitantly placing a hand on his shoulder, and pulling him in for a hug.

I had expected him to pull back, but he clung onto me tightly, feeling his body shaking from his silent sobs.

"We have to get out here Ashton," I whispered, tears stinging my own eyes.

"If we don't, Grace and Daisy die in vain, we can't let that happen." I felt Ashton nod and then we pulled away.

I turned back to Calum and Annie and placed the gun in my pocket.
