Why not me?

Nicks Pov:

I walk over to the couch careful not to wake up Ryker. I want to talk to Charlie alone. I shake his shoulder and he startles awake. "It's just me" I smile down at him. He relaxes and holds his head. "Sushhh" he moans. "Not so loud." I can't help but chuckle. "I'm whispering dumbass. Now get up and let's go get you some breakfast for your hangover. He looks over a Ryker who's still asleep. He shrugs his shoulders and pushes the blanket off. We creep out the door stopping by his dorm so he can chance and brush his teeth. He comes out of the bathroom in fresh sweatpants and my sweatshirt. I smile to myself that he still like to wear it. He stole it from me freshman year at my first hockey game and never gave it back. "Where to?" He asks. "Uh I thought we could just go to the school cafe" I walk over to the door. "Okay" he mumbles. He's clearly still hungover.

We walk into the cafe and notice it's buffet style. "Go sit down, I'll get you a plate" i motion to a table in the corner. Not arguing he nods his head and slumps into the booth. Ryker should have never let him drink so much, I shake my head in anger. The first thing I do is grab some coffee and a big plate of eggs bacon and fruit. I set the plate down in front of him and his stomach starts grumbling. "Eat up" I chuckle. "I'm sorry I've been a dick about you and Maddox." He mumbles with eggs in his mouth. "It's okay, it was kinda sudden. Just like you and Ryker." I add. "Yeah I guess so" he takes another bite. "Are you and Ryker really a thing? I ask. I seen Ryker disappear into Maxes room last night which was kinda weird. "Yep, we're together" he waves his fork in the air dismissing the question. "Are you and Maddox really together?" He questions back. "Of course" I answer to quickly. He nods his head and groans. "Is this headache ever gonna go away?" I can't help but laugh at how cute he's being. "It will go away eventually just drink the coffee." He nods taking a sip. "Are we okay now?" I ask hesitantly. "Yeah, I was just jealous I guess" my heart skips a beat at the confession and he looks up at me panicked. "I just mean I felt like I was losing my best friend ya know." His cheeks blush and I can't help but wonder if that's what he really means. "Yeah I was just jealous too." I answer. He tilts his head to the side and I don't add anything else hoping he takes the hint. But he just takes a bite of his bacon and looks away. A few moments pass of us just eating and out of nowhere I get the courage to ask what I've been wanting to. "Why Ryker and why not me?" I sit up in my seat leaning forward. "What?" He stutters. "Why did you go for Ryker and not me? We both play hockey, we look similar. We both had the same GPA. Why didn't you ever go for me?" He sits back in his seat just starting at me. "I.. I don't know I guess I've just never thought of you like that." I nod my head and lean back disappointed in his answer. "Why?" He questions me. "Idk, everyone just assumes we were a couple, yet we never were. But they have a point ya know. We did act like it." He nods his head slowly contemplating what to say next. "Would you have wanted to be together... you know as a couple.." he trails off. "I Uh I" I stammer. "Nick Nelson, do you have feelings for me?" He pushes. "I no, of course not I'm with Maddox." I answer a little too quickly. "And I'm with Ryker, so why are we having this conversation now?" He asks putting his fork down. "I don't know" I shake my head. This is not what I thought would happen. But what did I think would happen? He would dump Ryker and ride off into the sunset with me? How stupid could I be. He thinks I'm with Maddox now, I'll never stand a chance. "Charlie, there's something I need to tell you about Maddox.
"What about me?" I hear whispering in my ear. I turn around and max is behind me smirking. I look back over to Charlie and Ryker is sliding in next to him. "Hey baby" he leans in giving him a quick peck. "Hey babe" he clears his throat answering back. Max slides in next to me and wraps his arm around my should grabbing a strawberry and popping it in his mouth. Ryker coughs at the action and I can't help but wonder what happened last night. I know Rykers a jerk but would he really cheat on Charlie this soon and isn't max actually straight? I look over between the two of them and shake my head. "So what we're you gonna say about me? Max presses. "Oh nothing" I shake my head. "Yeah what we're you two talking about anyway that you had to leave us alone in the apartment and get food without us?" Ryker looks over to Charlie and for a second I see him panic. "Nothing just felt sick and needed food. Right Nick?" He glares at me. "Yeah definitely just trying to kick the hangover." Ryker nods his head contently. "Well let's eat!" Max chuckles breaking the tension.
