POV: Kelly
I came back from the gym at about 10am to find Cynthia at my door waiting. This girl is persistent I'll give her that.
"You're very early." I teased her.
"And you're late." She throws back and we laugh.
I opened the door and as we walk in Cynthia has a look I can't place on her face. It looked like she was sorting through some confusion.
"I have been meaning to ask you about the décor and style of your house." She said.
I look at her and tilt my head a bit.
"What about it?"
"It doesn't show your personality. It looks like a hotel where you come and go."
"This is my personality. Clean lines and modern finishes." I smiled a little. Design with purpose. The less personal a space, the less information is available about me and the less time I can spend clearing it out. Time I would not have in an emergency.
"Show me the closet girl and let me work my magic." She said rubbing her hands together.
"Can I shower first?"
"Yes, ofcourse. Go ahead." She smiled and stepped aside.
I took a quick shower and once I was dressed in sweatpants and a tank top I went to the kitchen to find Cynthia making herself busy.
"I made breakfast. It's not pancakes but it will do. Sit." She said laughing. I will never hear the end of this pancake thing. I shook my head as I sat down.
After breakfast we headed to my closet and I watched as Cynthia went through my clothes trying to put an outfit together. It's not a lot of clothes but I think she'll make it work.
I ended up getting roped into doing fittings and modelling my clothes for her.
We settled on a royal blue dress that stops just below the knee with a side slit. We paired it with a nude heel, diamond studs with matching necklace and a black clutch.
With that done we decided to make popcorn and watch movies the rest of the afternoon. Cynthia fell asleep on the couch. It's like movies are her lullaby.
My phone rang and it was Sheila. I went to my bedroom to take the call.
"Sheila. What's up? What did you find?"
"Hey. I'm still waiting for our contact to get me more intel so I need you to keep it together until I know more." She said.
"Okay. So what did you find out about him personally and professionally?" I asked.
"Well, he's good at what he does. Has great instincts and is as persistent as he is hot. Not married and no children." We laughed at her analogy.
"Okay. Well I'm meeting him in a couple of hours so maybe I'll learn more about him."
"Be careful. That's all I'm saying. This can go in any direction." She cautioned.
"I know that. I'll be careful." I promised and we ended the call.
Am I making a mistake? This could be the complication I don't need, but my gosh I like him and I like him enough to find out what this thing between us could be. A big part of me is looking forward to the date, it's not my first date or anything but it's a different first date. The dates I've gone on have been nothing but transactional. This one is purely because I like the guy and the universe has jokes because why does he have to be with the fucking FBI of all things in the world. Couldn't he be an accountant?
Eventually Cynthia woke up and we finished the movie before we made sandwiches for lunch. I like hanging out with her. She talks a lot which is fine but in my line of work, silence is golden. I can't switch off who I am, it sucks sometimes that I'm always on high alert and observing people around me.
