POV: Kelly
I'm sitting in the local library in between bookshelves on a bench waiting for Sheila. We need to talk strategy on how to handle the FBI potential issue. Maybe we are worried for nothing and they have no clue I'm right here. Or they could already know and he's working me to build a case. I giggle a little because it would be crazy if he was working me.
I pulled out my phone and I reread yesterday's text from Sam. He invited me over for dinner at his house where he'll be cooking for me. My guard went up making me think that he's playing at something and he wants homeground advantage. I better be ready.
"Hey Kelly girl." Sheila greeted as she sat next to me with a book.
"Hey. How was your flight?" I asked while paging through the book in front of me.
"It was good and anxious." She answered and I chuckled.
"How anxious are we talking?" I asked.
"Well I've been thinking about our federal situation. We know they're looking for you but they have nothing on you and they're not even certain that you are you. So I say we take advantage of that." She said quickly.
"Breathe Sheila." I said and she chuckled nervously. "How do we use that to our advantage?" I asked. If she's nervous it makes me nervous.
"Just play dumb." She said plainly. I stare at her with confusion. Registering my confusion she explains.
"Just play dumb. Don't play mind games with them or try to outsmart them. Stick to being Kelly who doesn't know anything about what they're asking. That will be your ticket out of their hold."
I sigh deeply pondering what she said. "Do you think that will work?"
"It might. They are not even looking at you...yet, but try to see if you can get a clue from Sam. Check the temperature of his questions."
"Okay. I'm not taking any chances though." I said.
"Kelly look, if you run or play games, he'll definitely know you are J.R or that you are at the least hiding something and that will be your end." She gave me a serious look. My decision and actions affect her as well, so I need to be careful.
"Fine. We'll do it your way." I conceded. "But, one sniff of the wrong thing and I am out of here quick, just like lightning." I continued and she nodded in agreement with a chuckle.
"Oh and I sent Jimmy over to your house for a sweep." She mentioned and then registering my expression she continues. "Just to be sure. You can never be too sure."
"I have to get going. Lunch with a friend before dinner with Sam." I said standing up.
"You have a friend?" Sheila asked faking a shocked expression.
I put my hands on my waist in fake offense. "I am capable of making friends." I stated with a smile.
"Be careful." She said and I smiled, but before I walk away I asked her a question that has been swirling around in my mind.
"What if he's not playing games? What if this is just dinner, just a relationship, just two people who really like each other or whatever it is?"
"Then that's what it is. Remember what I told you though, it won't end well. Your lives will clash at some point and it's not going to be pretty." She reassured me with a sweet warning tone.
I just nod and walk away. It's my risk to take I guess. It makes me a little sad honestly because a part of me was really hopeful about this. A part of me I thought had been gone and buried, never to be seen again, yet here I am...hopeful.
