POV: Sam

I stare at Kelly for a few seconds before asking a follow-up question.
"Do you keep in touch with him?"

She chuckles softly and sighs looking a bit sad. "Not really. He left the foster home about 2 years before me. He got in touch a few years later to check on me and catch up."

"What changed your plans on becoming a doctor?" I probe further. Kelly is not a big sharer of information especially about her past. I get the feeling she doesn't trust easily but I am hoping that she knows she can trust me.

"I grew up." She stated as a matter of fact. I stayed silent and after a few seconds she continued.
"I grew up and I had no support or a clear life plan after foster care. I had to figure it out on my own. I met some people and my life changed." She said with a smile.

"Did you always want to be in law enforcement?" She shifted attention to me.

"Not really. I wanted to be a teacher like my mom." I laughed a little.

"Really? I mean I can definitely see it."

"Yeah? I did study to be a teacher and also majored in psychology before deciding to join the FBI academy."

"Why the switch?"

"My psychology professor suggested it actually. He said I had the makings to add value to the FBI and I explored that route and never looked back."

"And you don't miss teaching?" She asked and I'm not sure what that expression on her face was because it passed very quickly.

"I used to actually, then I decided to pursue teaching at the FBI academy."

"Really? That's great. I haven't heard you saying you are going to the academy."

"I know. I have not done it in a while. Life and work got in the way and besides I would only go for a few classes to teach specific material." I answered and she nodded.

Later that night we're laying in bed and talking about how this place is beyond beautiful.

"So how did your cousin find this place?" She asked.

I scratched the back of my neck before answering.
"Actually my cousin, my brother and I own the place together." I said with a smile.

"You are sneaky." She punched my arm gently.
"So does that mean we can come back again and anytime we want?" She bats her eyes and I laugh.

"Ofcourse. Anything for you baby." I gave her a soft kiss on the lips.

The next morning we had breakfast before driving back home. The drive back was serene. I dropped Kelly off at her house before going back to my place. I didn't want to leave but work was still waiting for me.

"Thank you for a wonderful weekend." She said as she sat on my lap on the couch.

"Anytime baby. Thank you for going with me." I kissed her hand.

"I miss you already." She pouted making me chuckle.

"I will be coming by tomorrow. Tonight I just need to do some work. I'll miss you too." I kissed her.

I needed that night away with Kelly. I needed to regroup. The task force has been hectic. I accepted the call back to join the team. It's a great opportunity and I couldn't pass it by because of one incident. On my own I can deal with that but the work must go on.

We have conducted a raid on one target but came up with nothing. This one step closer feels a lot like ten steps back. We get a lead, we follow it and right on the brink of success we come up with zero. How does that keep happening every single time? Do we have a mole or are these guys just that good? I refuse to believe that.
