POV: Sam

I was sitting in Cynthia's coffee shop having lunch after a hectic morning at work. I don't even know what made me decide on this coffee shop in particular today. Maybe nostalgia, plus I couldn't deny they made delicious sandwiches and coffee.

I took a bite of my delicious sandwich, savouring every bite. This is good, too good. I took another bite and looked to Cynthia by the counter and nodded my approval and appreciation.

I finished eating my sandwich and picked up my coffee to sip when someone sat opposite me. I lifted my head and I almost choked on my coffee.

Am I hallucinating? This can't be real, can it?
I put my coffee down and rubbed my eyes because maybe I am going crazy. I looked again and she's still here...Kelly.

"Hi Sam." She said shyly.

"Hey." I said, still feeling like I'm dreaming.

She looked different. She's still beautiful, but something is different besides just changing her hair. I  just sat there staring at her in wonder. Am I dreaming?

"How have you been?" She asked bringing me out of my thoughts.

"I've been better. Good. How are you?" My God she's still making my heart flutter. I can't believe it's been a year. I never thought I was going to see her again.

I'm still in shock that she's actually here, right before my eyes. I had dreamed about this moment until I gave up but now she's here and I'm feeling so many complex emotions.

"I've been better." She answered.

We sat and stared at each other for a minute not saying a word. So much had to be said but for now silence was all we had for each other.

"It's been a year Kelly. Why now?" I broke the silence.

"We need to talk. I have..."

"No." I interrupted. "You don't get to suddenly waltz back into my life and want to talk. You left. You left." I said and anger was the first emotion to come out.

"Sam, I know that. I'm sorry." She offered and I stayed silent.
"Did you get my letter?" She asked and I scoffed.

"Yeah, I got your letter. Kelly, why are you here?"

"I understand you're angry and believe me, I wish I could fix that but I know I can't right now. I was hoping the letter would offer closure or something to..."

"You basically told me to move on. I know we were in a tough spot but you didn't have to leave me like that." My voice almost broke.

At this point, I'm not even sure what I was feeling. I was relieved, angry, frustrated and happy all at once. I was mostly frustrated because I was realizing that I still loved her. I had wanted this so much but now I had no idea what to do.

"It also told you that I Ioved you. Please give me a chance to explain and I swear it will make sense." She pleaded and I saw tears welling in her eyes but she held them back.

It broke my heart to see that. I was angry with her but was I being too harsh? Maybe I need to ease up and hear her out.

"You have 10 minutes." I said, my pride still fighting for the spotlight.

"Not here. Can you meet me at the hotel when you knock off?" She asked making me chuckle and I stood up and started walking out of the coffee shop.

"Sam? Sam, please wait." She called after me and I stopped giving her a chance to catch up.
"Okay. I get it. You don't trust me and you probably don't want to hear from me again but just give me a few minutes of your time." She pleaded.
