(Y/n) POV:

Today is a big day for Michael. He's competing in the California high school state finals for tennis. They say it's the state finals but it's just schools from LA and the neighboring areas. Not all of California is here. He's been playing in this tournament for about three days and now it's his last match today.

We got there pretty early and met up with Michael's coach and his teammates that were here to watch. He was the only one to make it this far so the entire team is here watching and celebrating.

Michael got straight to practicing with his coach and doing some warm ups. He was playing a sophomore from a very competitive sports school so this other kid was only a year younger than him. This was going to be a tough match, but he wins either way. If he loses the match he wins second place, and if he wins the match he gets first place.

The other teams slowly started coming in and it got very crowded very fast. They closed off a few courts and moved some bleachers in for people to sit on and watch the matches. We sat down in the front row and Michael's teammates sat on the top row. Slowly but surely parents and kids started filling the stands. Emma went off to go talk to some of Michaels teachers that were here.

"Well I would never want to miss such an amazing accomplishment from one of my students!" I heard Michael's English teacher tell Emma. His teacher also brought her daughter who looked like she was maybe two. "We made him a sign. We've been working on it all morning." I heard as I walked over to talk to them.

A few more of Michaels teachers were here too. I didn't know too many of them but they all seemed very nice. "I think he's much more relaxed then yesterday. He was very nervous yesterday but now that he's here I think he's relaxed a bit." I told Emma and his teacher. "Now I don't actually know how tennis works so hopefully I can figure it out fast." His teacher brought up. I explained the rules to her quickly while Emma went to go talk to Bonnie and Dan. I saw Flo arrive and waved her over. Sadie was here but she was talking to Charlotte.

We talked for a few minutes before the chair umpire declared the match officially started. Michael won the coin toss and decided to serve first. The crowed started cheering for him and other people on the other side cheered for the other boy.

"Power shot! Good job Michael!" I cheered when Michael slammed the ball over the net and won the point. Charlotte was taking pictures and Michael instantly went back to serving position. "You got this Michael!" I heard Ben cheer for his friend. "Go Michael!" Sadie and Charlotte shouted. Michael bounced the ball a few times before tossing it up and swinging his racket.

His opponent won the point and many people cheered, but nobody I knew. The next point started and it was a long rally. Michael hit a short shot and it bounced off the net, causing the opponent to miss the ball. "Yeah Michael!" Ben and Daniel shouted.

Unfortunately Michael's opponent caught up and now they were tied. "Yes!" Michael shouted when he scored another point. Everyone from his side started cheering and clapping for him. "Good job Michael!" Emma called out. "You're doing great!" I cheered.

After a hard game, Michael's opponent won the first set and you could tell Michael was upset with himself. His coach was able to calm him down a bit and they took a brief timeout before getting back to it.

Michael was winning after the first game of the second set and his opponent was catching up. It was quite stressful and he was being hard on himself for minor mistakes. I would go cheer him up but I'm not allowed to go onto the court.

"You can do it Michael!" Sadie cheered and clapped before Michael was about to serve. Michael slammed the ball in the perfect position and his opponent missed the ball. "Good job!" I shouted.

Finally after another hour and a half the match was almost finished. Michael needed one more point to win. I could tell he was getting nervous but I hope he can compose himself for this last point.

His opponent however was not giving up and playing as hard as he could. Michael had to run all sorts of ways but eventually it took one last hit and Michael's opponent just missed the shot.

"Yes!" Michael shouted while jumping and cheering. Everyone started cheering for him and his teammates went to go hug him. After all of his hugs from his coach and teammates he came over to us.

"Good job!" I cheered and gave him a hug. He hugged me back and mumbled a thank you. Emma was next and she gave him a bone crushing hug. "You did absolutely amazing. I'm so proud of you." Emma told him. Sadie and Charlotte were next in the hug line. First it was Charlotte and then it was Sadie.

"Michael! Congratulations, you had some real power hits! Truly amazing." Michael's english teacher told him. "Thank you." He smiled. "We made this sign for you, we worked hard on it all morning before we arrived." His teacher said and pointed to her daughter. "I love it." Michael said with a smile on his face. "Smile for a picture!" Emma told them and Michael held the poster up for a picture with his teacher and her daughter. "I still expect your homework done for Monday!" His teacher told him in what I think was a joking tone but I'm not quite sure. She's a very serious teacher, but not strict.

"How are you gonna celebrate?" Michael's coach asked. "I'm gonna go home and take a nap. Then go out for dinner and have some pizza." Michael told everyone, making them all laugh.

We had to wait for other matches to end since there were different sections of the competition. We needed doubles to finish their match and then do the awards ceremony before we can leave. Some people left once the match finished but that's okay.

Michael and Sadie sat down together and waited for the other match to finish while talking about I don't even know what. Charlotte was talking to Michael's teammates and the teachers were talking to each other.

Ten minutes later the other matches were over and it was time for awards. "In second place for class two singles, Sean Carson!" The host called out and the boy went to go get his medal. "And in first place for class two singles, Jack Gonzales!" The host called out and the kid went to get his plaque and medal.

"In second place for class two doubles is Neil and Brent Carlyle!" The host announced and the kids went to get their stuff. I kinda zoned out about the other kids until we got to Michael's part.

"For class one singles, second place goes to Tatum Cooper!" The host shouted. Michael's opponent went up and got his medal. "And for class one singles, first place goes to Michael Watson-(L/n)!" The host announced. Michael stood up and got his plaque and medal.

"That's my son!" I shouted to brag to the other parents. Michael took his plaque and medal and came back to see a bunch of people with phones out. "Picture time!" Charlotte shouted as people told Michael to pose. After a few minutes of pictures everyone started to leave and we figured we should too.

"I need a nap." Michael mumbled once we got in the car. "Well you have time, it's a long way home. Traffic is really bad." I told him and turned the car on.

One nap later and soon enough we were out celebrating the win. We had some pizza and some cake. And Michael went to the mall with Sadie and treated himself to some new shoes. I can't wait to see what happens next year and if he wins again.
