It was the second last day of summer before going back to school. Year twelves would be going in a day early just to get used to the new school, despite a majority of sixth formers being Hogwarts students beforehand.
Dudley just barely got into the sixth form, meaning Harry wouldn't be allowed to be out publicly. He was prepared to just be gay with Draco and not care about the outcomes, but alas, Dudley was still with him and he couldn't afford being snaked on.
Vernon was a raging homophobe, among other things, and Harry wasn't trying to get his ass beat any more than usual.
Speaking of, Harry had been avoiding Vernon as much as he could. He'd been going out during the day and waiting till the Dursleys were asleep to come back. He wasn't allowed to go out, but he kept breaking the rules and avoiding punishment.
It was working well. A little too well.
After all, when you're on a happy high, there's always a low waiting. Feeling okay always had an opposite reaction later on, and Harry knew it.
"Last day before school starts. Where do you want to go, or what do you want to do?"
"I don't know, what do you want to do?"
"You."
Harry choked on air as Draco laughed. It had only been a week, more or less, since results day, where Harry thought about telling his boyfriend what happened on Christmas Eve of year ten, but the thought never left.
It had been lingering in his mind for longer than that, but it became a more consuming thought over time. He wondered if this was something people have to tell their partners.
Harry was new to relationships, specifically this was his first one, so he had no idea what to do, really. He'd made out with Draco on multiple occasions, but other than that, it felt like they were still best friends.
With a mutual attraction for each other, but you know.
Were people in relationships supposed to get intimate immediately? Was it a must? Was Harry supposed to sleep with Draco because Draco wasn't a virgin?
"You alright, love?"
Harry hummed in response.
"You sure?"
He nodded.
"We don't have to actually do anything, you know. I don't expect you to want to go further than kissing just because I have a past. I hope you know that."
"Considerate as ever, Malfoy."
"Malfoy?"
"Sorry." Harry mumbled. "I just.. Do you think it's wrong for me to still keep secrets from you?"
Draco eyed the boy like he was a walking cry for help, which he honestly was. "No, I don't. If you want to tell me something, you can. If you don't want to, you don't have to. I don't expect you to pour out your heart to me because we're dating."
"Are you sure?"
"Potter, I have no doubt that you have been through much more than you let on. I know you have a shitty past and you're still having a shitty present. I don't care whether you let me into that shitty present or not, because that's up to you. You deserve privacy and a part of yourself being kept to yourself. That doesn't change because we're dating."
"So, really, us dating is just us snogging whenever we feel like it?"
Draco laughed. "Basically. And if you ever want to take if further, that's okay. If you don't, it's still okay."
