Year twelve was over when Harry woke up. Draco's life was almost over when he woke up. Harry's first thought was that Draco was in danger, and that he needed to help him. How he knew, god knows, but he did.
He pressed the call button and got a nurse to come help him. Specifically, Joseph. A happy accident. Once Joseph informed him that Draco was potentially suicidal, Harry demanded that the nurse would go save him somehow.
"Check the fucking roof, you imbecile."
His voice was raspy, obviously, because he'd not used it in a while. Joseph called a few other nurses before listening to the awoken boy, and went to find the concerning blond. Lo and behold, Draco was where Harry had said he'd be.
Joseph was slow to approach him. Startling him could make him jump, or knowing someone wanted to save him could make Draco jump. He was dangerous, and saving him had to be done skilfully.
Once Draco talked about not needing his clothes anymore, Joseph picked up his gentle pace and reached out for the boy. Draco seemed too lost in himself to notice the nurse.
"I love you, Potter. I'll see you soon."
"Yeah you will." Joseph wrapped his arms around Draco's waist right as he jumped. Every muscle in his body was working towards getting the blond back onto the roof.
Draco was light, much lighter than Joseph expected. It caused him to almost drop the teen in shock, but luckily didn't.
"Hey, hey, Draco, I've got you. I've got you. Don't push me away. Let me pull you up."
Draco was struggling in the nurse's grip, trying to pry the man's hands off of his torso. Fortunately, he was weak and tired, so he didn't do much.
"I just wanna see him again." He whispered.
"You will, if you let me pull you up. He won't want to see you in a hospital bed. He's gonna want you to be there as he learns how to walk again, talk again and smile again. He's going to need you, breathing."
"He's not here, Joseph."
Joseph smiled. "He's awake. He's why I'm here. He told me you'd be here, and yelled at me to come get you."
"Promise?"
"I promise."
Draco's entire body relaxed, and Joseph could almost feel the tension fade away. He managed to pull the teen up with ease, since he finally stopped fighting.
The moment he was back on the roof, Draco ran towards the stairs, to the lift, to Harry's room. He was high on adrenaline, and weed, but when he got to the room, he halted.
He's going to be so disappointed in me.
Joseph appeared behind him a few minutes after, since he got left behind and had to wait for the lift to come back. He expected to see Draco and Harry in each other's arms, not separated.
"Why aren't you going in?"
Draco's eyes were teary. "He's going to be so disappointed in me.."
"No he won't. Why would he?"
"I fucked up everything."
"No you haven't. Come, kid, let's go see your boyfriend."
Dr Lahiri was in there with Harry. She smiled at the boy, and then put the pieces together. Harry was the boy Draco panicked about. The look in his mercury eyes told her everything; he listened to her and got with him.
"Draco, sweetheart, how are you?"
He didn't reply. Instead, he ran towards the brunet, and wrapped his arms around the boy. "I hate you." Draco cried into his boyfriend's shoulders.
Harry pulled the blond down, so he was sitting on the side of the hospital bed, and hugged back. "I love you too."
Both of them stiffened.
"Did you-"
"I did."
"Do you mean it?"
"I do, Draco. I love you so much."
Draco had tears furiously pouring down his face as he replied. "Fuck, Harry, I love you so much."
Dr Lahiri and Joseph shared a smile. They were glad to be part of this beautiful moment.
"You're so stupid. Why wouldn't you tell me?"
"Not now." Harry whispered.
"Right, Harry, we're going to need to do a couple tests on you to check if you're okay. I'm also going to need you to stay here for a while so you can relearn how to walk. After that, I'll see if you can be discharged."
"Now?"
"I'll give you time to talk first."
Aayana walked out, dragging Joseph with her. He really wanted to watch them talk and fangirl over how cute they were, but was taken away. He decided he'd ask for details later.
"You're so thin." Harry said bluntly. "Did you relapse?"
Draco choked on air. "Jesus, Potter, could you not be so straightforward?"
"I'm actually gay."
The blond rolled his eyes.
"Did you?"
"I don't know. Did your uncle beat you half to death?"
"Don't put this on me. Don't avoid the question."
"Yeah well you're the one sitting in a hospital bed attached to an IV drip. Your uncle did this to you. When were you planning to tell me?"
Harry sighed. "I'm sorry."
Draco rolled his eyes again. "Don't. Don't apologise. Your uncle should be apologising for what he did. He should be rotting in jail for what he did."
"I was going to tell you."
"No you weren't, Potter, let's be honest here."
"Fine. Were you planning to tell me you relapsed? Or that you tried to kill yourself again?"
Draco scoffed, offended. "I did not."
"Then why did I wake up and immediately think of you trying to jump off a building. Specifically this one."
He shrugged. "You clearly imagined it."
"Don't gaslight me."
"I'm sorry." Draco sighed. "I'm so sorry, love."
Harry leaned back, shuffled and pat the space next to him with his hand. "Sit, and talk to me."
The blond did as he was told, wrapping his arm around his boyfriend. This was the affection he was starved of that he craved for months. He was happier than ever now that he got it back.
There was more he was starved of too, and Harry wanted to know. "Talk to me. I've been gone for three months; what happened?"
"Do you really want to know?"
"Of course I do. You matter to me, Draco. You mean a lot. If you've been hurting, I know you chose to hurt alone. That's just who you are. But you're not alone, so please, please, Dray, talk to me." Harry pleaded. "I love you."
"And I love you."
Fuck, here we go.
