After Tom Riddle killed himself in jail, the woman who managed to get him in there finally came out of hiding.

She lived in fear that his gang, the Death Eaters, would come for her and kill her for what she did. She lived in fear that her own husband would kill her.

Narcissa Malfoy was a pure soul married to an awful man. She didn't want the life she had, yet she told herself to suck it up and get over it.

When she got Tom caught and awaiting trial, she knew she had to find her recording and turn it in. She was fully against the horrible murder of the Potter's.

If she got the chance to stop it from happening, she would've.

Narcissa figured that since she never got the chance to stop the Potter's from dying, she could at least get them their justice.

It took her a few years to build up the courage, but she did it.

She overheard her husband on the phone, talking about Tom's current hiding place.

He was going to flee the country, start a new life.

After breaking into the Dursley's and violently murdering the deceased couple's child.

That's when Lady Malfoy knew she had to do something. Knowing and not doing anything felt like being an accomplice.

So she tipped off the police about his hiding spot instantly and the moment she heard he'd been caught, she rifled through her bank vault and found the many flash drive copies of the conversation.

Narcissa had many Death Eater's targets on her back the moment she stepped in that court room with the flash drive.

Once plugged in, she knew she would be needing a police escort on her way home.

And another, to leave the country to go to a safe house. She couldn't trust the police with a WITSEC safe house, because Tom Marvolo Riddle was a dangerous man with connections everywhere.

Three weeks later, her sister Bellatrix texted her with the news that he was dead, and it was safe to come home.

Bella loved Tom, but she loved Cissy more.

So, what felt like a thousand years later, Narcissa Malfoy came back to her home to find her sister with her son. Bellatrix took care of Draco whilst she was gone. Narcissa did not trust Lucius.

Ever since then, Lucius and Narcissa fought often. Lucius wasn't happy that his wife went and got his boss jailed. He blamed her for Tom's death.

Eventually, the two stopped talking. Malfoy Manor was cold. Rich in money, poor in love. Narcissa did her best attempt to keep being a good mother to Draco.

Until Lucius started hitting her. A part of her was lost the day he raised her hand at her. She fully became distant and cold, just like her husband.

The day she realised she'd become just like Lucius, she stopped talking completely.

She just worked, day in day out. Bellatrix tried to help her all the time. It didn't work. Malfoy Manor was nothing but a manor. It was everything but a home.

By the time Draco was in secondary, his parents stopped talking altogether. The abuse didn't end- they just didn't talk.

Draco would watch his parents pass by in a hallway and his father merely seeing his mother's presence would be enough for Narcissa to get shoved into the wall and kicked to the ground.

It hurt Narcissa physically, but hurt even more knowing her only son had to watch.

The only reason Narcissa hadn't left, which she really wanted to do, was because of Draco. She couldn't fathom the thought that if she had gone, who would be Lucius' stress-reliever?

She would never let her son be her husband's punching bag.

There was the option to take Draco with her, but Draco was so happy with his friends, and his school and his reputation. He was good at everything he did and he deserved to be.

It felt selfish, in her mind, to rip that away from him.

Bellatrix Lestrange, her sister and best friend, tried to persuade her that it wasn't selfish and she had to put herself first. She even offered to take in Draco if Cissy wanted to leave.

Or let her move in.

Narcissa never changed her mind. She knew what her husband was capable of. She wasn't ever going to take that risk.

No.

Her son's best chance was to stay right where he was, and progress in life the way he deserves to.

She didn't realise her own abuse hurt Draco too.

Some nights, Draco would come help his mother after his father would hit her, and care to her wounds. She would insist she could do it by herself, but her loving son would always refuse.

On some days when Lucius got really bad and caused Narcissa to go unconscious, Draco would carry his mother to her bed and tuck her in, after caring to her injuries to the best of his abilities.

Once upon a time, the Malfoy Manor was lively and joyous, and love was present.

However, the fairy tale life was one that the Malfoys did not live, and no happy ever after was to be given to the family.

At least, not yet.
