After Harry came back to school officially and returned to his studies, he found his old teacher, Remus Lupin, waiting for him. His reason for taking a self-defence class had become clear to the older man, and he was worried.
Harry begged Lupin not to snake on him, and have his uncle jailed. He didn't want that until Dudley could leave his house and start a future for himself. Only when the Dursleys were irrelevant and useless, did Harry deem it fit for them to get what they deserved.
"Will you move out when you can, Harry?" Remus asked him.
Harry nodded. "Of course. I'll earn it. I've been working for a while, so I've got money saved. Not enough, but it'll be enough eventually."
This was true. For years, Harry unofficially worked. Once he was sixteen, he got a job. After he was hospitalised, he lost his job, but got it back after proving he was literally comatose.
He had about two thousand quid made from his job, and a couple hundred from previous years. That would suffice for a while, he'd decided.
"What?" Lupin was shocked. "Didn't you- wait."
Remus picked up his phone and called someone. After leaving his office to take the call, Harry sat in silence, confused. He fiddled with his fingers as he waited for his old professor to return.
What was so important?
Harry waited for about twenty minutes before Remus, and some other man, came back into the room.
"Who's he?"
"I'm Sirius Black." The man extended his hand. "Your godfather."
Harry gasped without meaning to. "I have a godfather?"
"Yes." Both men answered.
"Then why was I stuck with my aunt? Shouldn't you have taken me?"
Sirius gulped. "I'm sorry, Harry."
Harry raised a brow, signalling him to go on.
"Sit, Sirius." Remus commanded, and so, Sirius sat on him.
Harry smirked at the two. He knew, since that night in Godric's Hollow, that there was something fruity about the two of them. "Gay." He coughed.
"Says you."
"Hm?"
"You and Malfoy. I see the way you two look at each other." Remus smirked, the same way Harry had just a moment ago.
"MALFOY?" Sirius screeched. "James' son is with a Malfoy? Oh, he's so rolling in his grave right now."
"Excuse me?" Harry was instantly offended.
"I was friends with them. Don't get mad." Sirius said. "We were in a group. Remus, me, James and Peter. He was a fucking traitor, though, and told Tom Riddle where your parents were going. That's why he knew where their car was."
"Love, don't be swearing in front of him." Lupin reprimanded.
"Shut up."
Remus looked offended but rolled his eyes and moved on.
"I was supposed to take you in, and I did, but then Peter," Sirius spat his name out like it was poison, "framed me for killing him. I had so much media on me for that, and because you were a literal miracle, that I couldn't handle it. I had to give you up."
"It's okay." Harry softened immediately. He felt bad for everyone of whom his existence affected. "Are you okay now?"
Sirius frowned. "You're so much like her."
Remus whispered something, but his husband ignored it.
"So sweet, caring, kind. Selfless. She loved you so much, and would've loved the person you are now."
Harry teared up immediately. The topic of his parents was always a soft spot of his.
"You have-"
"Her eyes, I know."
The two in front of him smiled sadly. "I'm sorry you lost them."
"I'm sorry you guys did too."
And tears formed in their eyes too. When people thought of the Potter's deaths, they didn't acknowledge that their friends were hurt too. People only thought of what Harry had lost, and not what the Marauders', James and Lily's family and other friends lost too.
"You're an angel, Harry." Remus said softly. "Anyways, the reason I brought my- my Sirius here was because you seem to be lacking some information."
"What?" That could mean a lot of things.
"Were you never informed of your inheritance?"
"Sorry?"
Sirius was enraged. "They never told you about the money Lily and James left for you?"
"No?"
Remus laughed humourlessly. "Oh, Prongslet, you have about a million pounds waiting for you once you're of age."
Harry choked on air. "Sorry, how much?"
"One-fucking-million. And a half." Sirius grinned. "You don't have to worry about money for a long time, Harry."
"I still want to earn my own way."
"Lily's definitely smiling from up there, right now."
All three of them simultaneously looked up, smiling back. And it was true. From up there, the Potters were crying with joyous smiles on their faces. It was beautiful.
"You can earn your own way, Prongslet, but you don't have to worry immediately. Move out with that money and make a living for yourself. They'll be proud of you regardless." Remus explain. "We'll be proud of you regardless."
"Even if you're shagging a Malfoy."
"Sirius, shut the fuck up."
Harry laughed, tears falling down his face. This was family. This was what he grew up dreaming of. It was perfect, and he knew he'd be staying in touch with the two for as long as he lived.
"Why do you call me Prongslet?"
"We, as teens, called ourselves the Marauders."
"Gave Minnie hell."
"Sirius, quiet." Remus scolded. "And your father was called Prongs, I was Moony, Sirius was Padfoot and .. Peter, he was Wormtail."
"It sounded beautiful."
"Not for Minnie."
"Sirius, for the love of God-"
peace.
