Danny prided himself on how good he was doing with her. He had finally been able to fuck her as Jed. She was too easy to manipulate and the thought made him smile. One night he would woo her with Jed only to terrify her as Ghostface the next. The cycle was set in place and now it just needed to continue. He could scare her only to have her running to Jed for comfort. Eventually, when she had fully trusted him he would reveal himself and end her both emotionally and physically. He tried not to get over excited at the thought as he readied himself in the morning. He couldn't wait to see her at work. She would slowly be engulfed by him and he would be the only thing in her life she could focus on.

You had felt crazy as you sat at your desk unable to focus on the work in front of you. After your visit last night you felt guilty and terrified at the same time. You hadn't made it official with Jed though you hoped it was heading there but how could you when you had also been seeing Ghostface despite the fact that he showed up whether you liked it or not. It wasn't a choice but you felt horrible inside. You tried to calm yourself but only felt your anxiety rise as you watched Jed walk into the office. He gave you his usual smile and you smiled back trying to look happy although, inside you were a mess.
"I brought you a coffee," he smiled as he walked up to you and set a cup down.
"Thanks, I need it," you said trying to be lighthearted.
"Did you have more nightmares?" he asked and you frowned. He knew you too well.
"Kinda. It's alright though," you replied.
"There's been another one," Samantha said as she got off the phone and practically shouted. You felt your stomach sink as you hoped it wasn't what you were thinking about. Your attention was shifted as she turned on the TV in the office and turned up the volume. It was the news channel you had seen before.
"It was only until this morning that the body of Jonathan O'Leary had been found, though police have reported that it had been at least a day since the attack," the lady reported as she stood in front of a suburban house you realized you had driven by before.
"Well, the neighbors called it in this morning saying they hadn't seen him exit his home all day and he hadn't gone into work or even called out. We knew it was probably another attack," Officer Moore had said into the microphone. You tried to stay focused but Bob's voice broke through the office.
"Jed we need you over there pronto. Take (y/n) with you we need to get an article out by tomorrow max," he said and Jed nodded.
Though you knew you had to act normal your stomach had turned and you felt queasy. When had he done that? You felt the room start to spin around you as you had come to the realization he must have done that the night before visiting you. The night you had spent resting after Jed had gone home. You felt tears form in your eyes as you looked up at Jed.
"Are you alright?" he asked as he put his hand on your shoulder.
"Y-yeah I just. I didn't expect it is all," you said as his eyes glossed over you.
"Let's go to the car. We can get away from everyone for a bit yeah?" he asked and you nodded. You stood up and grabbed your notepad and pen knowing that you would be heading over to the scene afterwards.
Jed had opened the car door for you as usual, though you couldn't even focus on him as you stepped into the car feeling almost numb. He must've noticed but decided it was best to give you space as the two of you drove in silence.
When you arrived at the scene your anxiety grew and you trembled at the sight of the cars swarming around the building. Reporters bustling and neighbors peering from their front porch. The scene made you sick.
"If you want to stay in the car it's alright. I won't be upset," Jed said as he put his hand atop yours. You looked into his eyes unsure of what to do but decided you needed to be strong. You needed to know what happened.
"I-I'll be ok," you said with a small smile and Jed gave one back despite the fact that his brows furrowed and he looked concerned. You stepped out of the car and heard the commotion of people as they tried to report what was happening on tv. Jed walked next to you and held your hand gently before he gave you a reassuring squeeze and you nodded. The two of you walked up to the yellow tape that had surrounded the house and you made notes of it. It was a nicer house than yours again. Just like the first. And the neighborhood seemed decent. You felt confused for a second at why he had targeted this place. Why did he go after seemingly the most normal people? And if that was the case why did he visit you? A loner who lived in a worse part of town? It made no sense and your grip on your paper tightened as you watched Jed begin to take photos.
You closed your eyes briefly as you saw a gurney being pulled out from the house and your stomach began to turn again. It couldn't be. It couldn't be. You thought to yourself as your breath shook. Jed's hand on your shoulder caused you to reopen your eyes and you stared as the gurney was pulled up to an ambulance only a few feet away from you. Though, the body was covered you could still make out the shape. Just as you thought it would be whisked away from your view to spare your emotions, a hand slipped out and the medical crew immediately tucked it back under the black fabric. It was too much. You couldn't bear the weight that had began to compress your chest and your stomach turned and twisted in knots. You put your hand up to your face as you felt a push from your gut. You knew you couldn't contain it. Jed looked over at you as you ran away from the house and bent over near some bushes by another house. You felt another push from your stomach and it was too much to hold back as you felt the bile in your throat. The vomit splattered on the dirt in front of you as tears followed closely behind. The reality of who he was couldn't be ignored this time. And you couldn't ignore that you had been with him. That you had slept with him only a day after he had done something so terrible. Your lips quivered as you heard footsteps run towards you.
"Are you alright?" Jed's voice broke through and you felt embarrassed as you slowly stood up and wiped your mouth with your sleeve.
"I-I'm sorry. I think I have to wait in the car," you said as you looked up at him. His face only pushed your tears further as you felt guilty knowing Jed had cared so much and you had betrayed him.
"Let me take you," he said but you only shook your head no.
"I'm ok. I just couldn't handle seeing that yaknow? I-I'm fine," you struggled to say the last words and he didn't listen.
"Im walking you to the car ok?" he said and you didn't have the energy to protest. Nor did you want to considering you had already felt bad enough. You didn't need to start pushing him away either.
He held you closely with his arm wrapped around your waist as the two of you walked to the car. You wanted to tell him how terrified you were. You wanted to spill your fears to him, but you knew you couldn't. Especially if it meant he would also be at risk.
"I'll be back as soon as I can ok?" he said and all you could do was nod in response as you stared into his eyes from your seat in the car. He stayed silent for a moment before he stood up and closed the car door leaving you alone in the silence. You panicked at first trying to not throw up again. You began to take deep breaths and closed your eyes as you tried to calm down. Every minute felt like hours and eventually when you stopped crying you stared at the dashboard in front of you trying to block out the world around you. You must've looked insane as you stared blankly feeling your body go numb. After a while you stared back out the car window and looked for Jed. He seemed busy talking to Officer Moore again and you thought it was best to get up and go help him take notes, though as much as you tried to move you couldn't. You stayed frozen in your seat trying to process what had happened. How did it all even begin? Why was he doing this to you despite the fact that he could've simply just killed you? After a moment of false bravery you opened the car door again feeling the cold air hit your face once more. Before you could even get up out of your seat however Jed was already walking over to you. As he approached the car door he looked at you with sad eyes.
"Are you feeling ok?" he asked as he leaned down to talk to you. You simply nodded.
"I- I can go out," you said stumbling over your words though Jed shook his head in protest.
"It's alright. I got all the info we need. How about I take you to the diner before we go back to the office yeah?" he asked and you smiled the guilt returning to you as you stared at his smile in return.
"Y-yeah. That sounds nice," you responded meekly. He nodded and closed the door for you before getting into the drivers seat. He put his hand atop yours as the two of you drove to the diner he had always taken you to. You stayed silent for a while before you finally worked up the courage to talk about it.
"W-what happened?" you asked and Jed looked at you for a moment as if debating whether or not he should tell you.
"It was definitely Ghostface," he said though that wasn't what you were asking.
"No, I mean. How did he die?" you asked feeling the sudden thud of reality hit your stomach again.
"His face... was smashed in," Jed said as he peeked over at you. You froze in silence as the weight pressing down on you doubled. You knew Ghostface was violent, but this had seemed rather far.
"That's horrible," you said unable to say anything else. Jed looked at you with a face you were unsure of, but you knew he probably was just concerned about you.
When you had gotten to the diner he ordered his usual cinnamon bun and you ordered your usual as well. The two of you talked a bit though, he mainly just spent the time comforting you. You didn't eat much of your food as you just focused on what had occurred earlier. You knew he was a murderer. You knew and yet you had done nothing. Jed didn't push too much, though you told him about your usual fear of the idea of being next.
"I know it's scary, but you'll be fine," he said as you stared down at the table in front of you.
"Jed, I just. We don't know. He could be anywhere," you said trying to get him to see from your point of view.
"That's true but I'm here for you. I'll protect you ok?" he said and you just nodded as you felt the tears come to your eyes again. He cared so much and you had been betraying him.
"What if you can't?" you asked as tears flowed down your cheeks.
"I promise you," he said and you just shook your head.
The rest of the day was as rough as the beginning. Jed had come over to your house after work making sure you made it there safely and even stayed for a bit as you watched some movies together. You had opted out of watching your usual horror favorites and instead watched a comedy film that ended up being terrible. He had gotten take out again and when the two of you were done eating you laid your head on his lap.
"I'm almost sorry for choosing this movie," you laughed and Jed followed.
"It's definitely different," he replied as he looked down at you. "But hearing your laugh makes it worth it," he added and you blushed. You hesitated for a bit before responding.
"Hey Jed, I just wanted to say thank you. For caring about me," you said as you stared at him.
"I always will," he said as he touched your cheek gently.
