It had thrown you off completely. At first you weren't sure whether he meant it or not, but as the time went by and weeks passed with no sign of him you eventually felt relieved. At first you had been terrified that maybe you had set him off, but he didn't call or move around things in your home. It was difficult at first and you often found yourself feeling a bit sad before you finally drifted off to bed each night but with time the feeling went away. Things had gotten better and you had less nightmares which allowed you to get better rest. You had given up on your search for him and instead focused more on your work and even began writing a bit again. You also spent more time with Jed and he began sleeping over almost every night with a few exceptions. You had even tried getting more into cooking and would sit nervously watching Jed's every expression whenever he tried something new you made. He would cook for you sometimes as well and you always felt a bit jealous that his skills far surpassed yours.
"Are you just good at everything?" You asked as you took another bite of the food that had been sitting in front of you. That earned you a hearty chuckle from him as he shook his head.
"I think you're just biased because you like me so much," he said and you shook your head as you raised your hand to cover your mouth. You had accidentally gotten a bigger bite than you expected again and didn't want to embarrass yourself in front of him. Like. That word made you frown internally. You did like Jed. A lot in fact. But it wasn't enough to leave it at that. The night Danny had broken in you admitted that you had fallen in love, and you really had. Jed hadn't just been your best friend but rather your partner and one that laughed at every bad joke you made. He helped you clean whenever you needed it. Read your stories and clung to every word with interest as you sat nervously next to him. Complemented you every time you felt like you had looked bad and you didn't even need to say anything. He just did it and part of you wondered if he loved you too.
"You could be right," you smirked as you watched him take a drink of his soda.
"I'm glad you like it so much. I was worried it wouldn't be up to your high chef standards," he said and you laughed.
"Jed I've learned like a few new recipes from a beginner book," you said as you rolled your eyes.
"Well personally I think that regardless of the level they turn out amazing and thats what matters," he added and you nodded.
"You're just being nice," you teased as you stuck out your tongue.
"Would you rather I be mean?" He asked and you shook your head.
"Maybe in bed," you said half jokingly.
"I can do that," he said as he looked you over and you blushed.
"I was actually thinking of getting more into baking," you replied and his eyes lit up.
"Cinnamon buns?" He asked and you giggled.
"First priority actually," you said truthfully. He had really loved the ones from the bakery though they rarely had them in and you wanted to make them for him.
"You're just bribing me now," he said and you nodded.
"Exactly my plan," you hummed earning another grin from him.
After you had finished up you washed the dishes as he dried them and put them away. He had been wearing a black short sleeve that allowed you to look at his arms and you couldn't help but stare as you watched him put the plates away. He caught your gaze and smirked before continuing to help. Once everything had been done the two of you had rested on the couch and you looked up at him as he flipped through the channels. You looked at every curve on his face and tried to imprint them in your mind as he spoke.
"Honey," he said as he waved his hand in front of your face causing you to break out of your thoughts.
"Yeah?" You asked and he chuckled.
"Ive been trying to get your attention. I asked if you wanted to go to my place tomorrow," he said and you opened your eyes in shock.
"What?" You asked confused and he laughed as he realized your surprise.
"I know you haven't been before. I've been wanting to show you," he said and you nodded as you listened.
"I'd love to," you smiled and he chuckled as his hand reached down to graze your cheek.
"Ok, tomorrow then," he said and you shook your head excitedly. You hadn't been there before and you just figured maybe he had been nervous to take you there. You turned to watch the TV as he continued to surf through the different options and stopped him as a familiar sitcom showed up on TV.
"I love this one," you said and he groaned.
"Ugh, really? It's not even comedic," he stated and you laughed at his stubbornness. He playfully ruffled your hair which made you look up at him annoyed and he chuckled at the pout on your lips.
"Give it a chance, you might actually laugh," you responded and he set the remote down. As the characters made quips and jokes you giggled along though Jed stayed silent occasionally shaking his head at the comments made on the show. His fingers ran through your hair and you relaxed your head further onto his lap. When the time came he picked you up in your half sleep state and carried you bridal style to your bedroom. Your head bobbed against his chest with every step and when he set you down he got in the best next to you and held you closely to him.
The next morning Jed left early as he had a few things to do, though he said he would be back to pick you up around 8. You were excited as you thought about visiting his home. He hadn't taken you there before and it never really crossed your mind as to why. It just felt like it was convenient to always go to your home since the two of you always went there. As you continued to think you looked around the house and realized you should do some cleaning. You groaned at the thought but realized it was probably for the best. You let the TV play in the background to provide some noise while you started in the kitchen. Before you knew it time had gone by rather quickly and as the clock neared closer to 7 you decided on taking a quick shower before Jed got there.
As you stepped into the water it reminded you of the times Danny would visit and you would typically end up under the warm running water. Part of you felt relieved that you wouldn't be scared anymore, but part of you wondered why he had done it all and where he had gone. You felt the sadness loom over you as your chest felt tight. It wasn't often you felt this way but when you did it hit you rather hard. You felt guilty that you even missed him. Especially since you were with Jed. You didn't know why you would even feel that way over someone who had broken into your home. Who had done those things to you. In a way you felt like he had also cared about you. Despite the things he had done he hadn't killed you. In fact, he had let you go. You thought back to the night again as you sat on the floor of the shower and cried silently to yourself. Maybe you had said the wrong thing. But you had wanted him to leave and he did exactly as you asked. He didn't even try hurting you or anyone else. You should've been happy, and instead you felt more lost than ever. It took you a while but when the water started to get a bit colder you eventually stood back up and finished washing yourself off.
When you stepped out the shower you dried yourself off before picking an outfit you thought looked a bit cute and then brushing your hair. When you finished you waited in the kitchen moving some things around before you saw Jed's car pull up in the driveway and you grew a bit nervous from your excitement. You quickly walked outside making sure to lock the door behind you and as you walked up to his car he got out and opened your side of the door for you as usual. You watched as he walked back to his side of the car and got in.
"You look nice," Jed smiled as he leaned in and gave you a quick kiss.
"You too," you replied as you looked him over again. He was wearing some plain jeans with a tight black shirt and a nice plain blue jacket over it.
"Alright, to my place it is then?" He asked and you nodded.
You were nervous though at the same time you were excited as you hadn't been there before. As the drive went on you noticed as the two of you had entered the good neighborhoods. The houses weren't huge but they were a bit nicer than yours. When you pulled up to the driveway of his home you smiled as you looked at the house. It seemed nice and cozy. You grabbed your bag and opened the car door and he walked over before grabbing your hand and walking to the front door with you. As you walked up to the door he let go of your hand to unlock it. When you finally walked inside you were met with a pleasant surprise as you saw just how clean his place was. He didn't have too much furniture or things, but everything looked like it was set perfectly in its place with nothing amiss.
"Wow," you stated bluntly and he looked over at you with a smile.
"What?" He asked seemingly confused.
"I didn't expect it to be this clean," you replied.
"Really?" He asked with his brows a bit raised.
"Ok, now thinking about it... it makes sense for you," you added and he chuckled.
"Well, I wanted to make sure it was nice for you," he said slyly and you beamed up at him. "Now to give you a quick tour," he said as he intertwined his hand with yours again. He led you through the house as he talked to you. "Obviously, this is the living room, and over here we have the small but it works kitchen," he said as he led you to the kitchen and you almost gasped at the cute setup he had made. The table had a nice cloth over it with a candle and flowers. "There's a nice dinner that I'm gonna make you later," he casually dropped and you giggled as you pressed further into his side as he continued to lead you through his home.
"Jed you didn't have to," you said feeling the blush on your cheeks.
"No, but I like surprising you," he said with another sly smile. He showed you around a bit more and as he reached the door at the end of the hall you noticed his bedroom. It was clean like the rest of the house and was very simple with just a bed and a desk you assumed where he did his work. "Nothing too special in here," he said as you looked around. You also noticed a small nightstand by his bed and as you walked over you noticed the photo he had taken of the both of you kissing had been framed and placed neatly on it and you couldn't help it as you picked it up and smiled again. "Except that," he said as he noticed it in your hands. You looked up at him and blushed a bit at the sentiment.
"So, you just keep this by your bed?" You joked playfully and he chuckled.
"I like having you close," he replied smoothly and you rolled your eyes at the comment.
"You can keep me close whenever you want," you replied and he smiled.
"I will definitely take you up on that," he teased.
"I was hoping you would," you smiled back. You set down the photo back on his nightstand before he wrapped his hand in yours again and led you back out to the living room area. You smiled as you felt his thumb rub on the back of your hand before he spoke again.
"So, if you want I can get you a drink so you can sit and relax while I make dinner," he said as he looked down at you but you shook your head.
"I wanna help. You already set all this up," you pointed over to it and he shook his head.
"Nope, sorry honey. That's my job tonight you can just go sit and look pretty," he said and for half a second you got deja vu.
"Fine," you half groaned knowing he wasn't gonna let up on it.
"Go sit down I'll get you a?" He asked.
"Water," you replied before heading over to sit down. It wasn't until you had walked over to the couch that you noticed he had some of your favorite movies laid out with your favorite snacks. You furrowed your brows a bit as you also noticed he had a game of chess and you wondered if he was wanting to play that. "Chess?" You asked as you looked up at him in the kitchen. He had taken his jacket off and so you stared at his arms as he moved about getting things ready.
"Thought it might be fun," he responded and you nodded.
"Well- I suck at it but I'll try. I think I'm much more skilled at like... checkers," you joked and he laughed.
You sat down on the couch feeling the fabric rub nicely on your skin as you went to turn on the TV. He brought you over your water to which you thanked him by giving him a kiss. It wasn't long as you surfed through the channels until he had finished the food. The smell was nice as it filled your nose and you couldn't help as you peaked behind you to see him setting the plates on the table.
"Dinners ready honey," he said as he looked over to you and your heart jumped a bit at his smile. You got up from your place and walked over as he pulled out the seat for you and you sat down. You looked down at the dish before you as your mouth watered from the smell.
"It looks really good. Thank you," you said as he sat in front of you.
"The look on your face is thanks enough," he chuckled and you giggled. You dug your fork into the pasta before you and swirled it around before taking a bite that had been bigger than you realized.
