When you woke up the next morning Jed had already been up and made coffee for the two of you to take to work. You had gotten dressed quickly not wanting to be late especially since today was the day you were gonna turn in your article in hopes of getting it on the paper. The look of worry must've been obvious as Jed watched you get dressed.
"You're going to be just fine," he said smiling as you stumbled to get into your pants.
"I know but what if I'm not?" You asked and he laughed at how unsure you were.
"Babe, you'll be fine. I know Bob and if I'm honest the piece you wrote is ten times better than the first one I turned in at this place," he said making your brows furrow at the comment.
"Yeah sure," you joked and he shook his head.
As you walked to the restroom Jed followed behind and you both began to brush your teeth. He had already had a toothbrush there and you couldn't help but giggle at the sight of him behind you. His head was directly above yours in the mirror and the sight of how he bared his teeth was funny. You watched as some of the toothpaste fell from his mouth and onto your head causing you to groan.
"Je-d," you whined as you tried to wipe it off causing him to chuckle in response.
When the two of you had finally been done getting ready you found yourself leaning back into the passenger seat of his car your hands covering your face as you tried to calm your breathing. You were stressed. Not only was it pressure on its own to know if Bob would like it, but if it did manage to go through how would Danny react? Jed had a point with his worrying considering what you had written. When you finally picked what you wanted to make your article about it filled you with anxiety at the same time that it gave you a slight boost in confidence. It wasn't the greatest idea but it was something you wanted to get across. You were tired of Ghostface. Everyone in the town had been. You didn't want to give him more free publicity and just mention what he had done. No, you wanted to dismiss his actions as though he wasn't important.
The sight of the gazette made you nauseous but you knew you had to get it over with. You picked up your mug filled with the coffee Jed had made that morning and grabbed your bag. Though before you could begin to exit the car Jed's hand held your chin firmly to look up at him.
"You're gonna be fine. You're brave ok? And if Bob doesn't approve of it he's a dumbass," he said bluntly and you nodded. You knew he was just trying to make you feel better but you appreciated the efforts nonetheless.
"Ok, I got this," you affirmed yourself before Jed smiled and shook his head.
"You certainly do," he added as he leaned in to kiss your forehead. It left you beaming as the two of you exited the car and walked towards the building. You shivered a bit from the weather. It had gotten significantly colder the past week and though you enjoyed a break from the heat it didn't help the fact that you were already always shaky from your anxiety. It left you tense as you finally made it inside the office.
"Do I just go in now?" You half whispered as you asked Jed unsure of when you needed to turn in your work to Bob.
"Yeah, I mean take a moment to put your stuff down first but I don't see a better time than now," Jed responded and you nodded.
You took your things over to your desk and took a tiny sip of your coffee before placing it on your desk. You sighed as you noticed the amount of work that had been left there but you didn't let it discourage you. You grasped at the folder in your hands that held the papers as you took a shaky breath as you headed to Bob's office. When you finally made it to the door you brought your fist up and gently knocked on the door waiting for his response.
"Come in," he said in a huff and you mentally cursed at yourself worried that you had caught him at a bad time. You turned the knob to his door and it creaked open just as you saw his expression. He had furrowed brows and seemed a bit serious but as he looked up and saw you his expression changed into a smile. You reassured yourself it would be fine as you shut the door behind you and sat promptly in the seat across from him.
"I-I finished the article that you wanted me to write," you said as you handed him the folder. He took out the paper and gave it a quick look over before nodding and looking back at you.
"Quite lengthy... What's it about?" He asked and you paused as you hadn't expected that question. Part of you just thought he would read it and give you a yes or no on it.
"Fear," you responded your voice sounding smaller than before. And sure enough that was the one emotion encompassing you right now. It was the one that always had been.
"I wont lie I just expected a piece on a local business or the book fair at the library this week," he said gruffly as he looked over your paper. "We'll make room for it though," he nodded as your hopes started to lift. Though, you had also been confused. Had he even taken the time to read it? "Do you have a photo to go with it?" He asked and it caught you by surprise. You didn't think you needed a photo. You cursed yourself mentally before replying.
"No, I uh I didn't think I needed one," you replied and he nodded.
"Well, can you get one in before Monday?" He asked and you nodded.
"Yeah- I can get one in this weekend if you'd like," you responded and he nodded.
"Bring one in tomorrow I'm here on the weekends usually overseeing things," he replied. He went to set it down and you couldn't help it as the words left your mouth.
"D-did you read it?" You asked more in shock than anger.
"I gave it a quick look but I'll read it if you like," he said as he grasped the paper in front of him and read it over. You sat in silence half shocked at his response and watched as he nodded while looking at the paper. "It's good. Yeah, no this is better than I anticipated. We'll make room for it," he said as he gave you another look. You felt deflated. He had given that half assed response just to shut you up and you simply smiled and nodded.
"Thank you again so much for this opportunity," were the only words that left your mouth before you shook his hand and headed out the office. It had almost been worse than if he had just said it was bad. Though, you weren't gonna complain. At least it would be in the paper. Oh god Danny was gonna see it in the paper. It's not like it was that bad, right?
Later that day when you had explained to Jed what happened he nodded and gave a small frown.
"That's Bob for ya," he said and you looked at him with a shocked face.
"Is he always like that?" You asked and Jed chuckled.
"He cares," he said as he bobbed his head thinking, "sometimes." He added. "Listen, don't take it personal. He's like this with every article that isn't about Ghostface, and even then he usually trusts me to do a good enough job anyways," he said as he put his hand on your shoulder. You had been sitting in his car in the parking lot of the gazette tired and ready to go home.
"It was just kind of disappointing you know?" You said and he nodded.
"Maybe a nice home cooked meal made by your cute boyfriend will make up for it?" He asked as he gave you a sly smile and you giggled.
"I think it would," you responded and he laughed as he began to pull out of the parking lot.
As you headed home you remembered another thing you needed.
"Oh- I forgot, he asked about a photo. I have to bring it in tomorrow," you said worried and Jed nodded.
"I can take it for you if you'd like, or you can do it yourself I'll give you my camera," he said and you shook your head.
"I don't know all the fancy stuff," you replied and he chuckled.
"I'll show you. Do you have any idea what you want the photo to be of?" He asked and you sat for a moment pondering.
"Not really, no. Any ideas?"  You asked as he stared at the road before him.
"Maybe a picture of the town? Just a general idea-"he continued but you interrupted him.
"Oh- um you know the old sign welcoming you to Roseville?" You asked and he nodded. "Maybe that. I saw it the first day I drove here I think it would look nice," you stated and he laughed.
"That old sign? Alright if you think so," he smiled.
"You'll take it for me right?" You asked.
"If you want me to," he replied and you smiled.
The drive there wasn't too long as Roseville didn't stretch very far and thankfully Jed knew exactly which sign you were talking about. You were grateful that it wasn't too dark out yet as the two of you pulled off to the side of the road. You hopped out the car as Jed opened the door to the backseat and looked through his bag getting out his camera. It was a fancy film one that you saw him carry sometimes around for work. It reminded you of Danny though his camera was a cheaper instant that he could've gotten anywhere.
"Alright you want me to show you?" He asked and you shook your head.
"You said you would take it for me," you replied and he waved you over to stand by him.
"I will but you also asked me before to teach you so I'm gonna," he said with a sly smile and you rolled your eyes.
"I'm gonna waste all your film," you groaned.
"And I'll still probably end up keeping all of it," he smiled. "Ok, so first you have to hold it," he joked as he handed it to you. You felt the confusion hit you as you held it unsure what the little knob meant. "So, it might be a bit confusing but basically there's a few things you need to worry about," he said and you nodded as you listened. "ISO, shutter speed, and aperture," he started and you looked at him dumbfounded.
"I thought it would just be like point and shoot no?" You asked and he laughed.
"Babe, trust me its a lot at first but I'll try to make it simple. So, you use this knob here and turn it to adjust the settings. Basically you want to try to balance these to get the correct exposure on your photos," he said as he continued to explain the different things and what they did. When you finally learned what they meant and tried to get a better grasp you nervously took your first photo.
"What if it comes out bad? I can't even see it till you develop them," you replied nervously.
"That's why I'll take the last photo. So if yours don't work we'll have mine to fall back on. Just mess around with it. See what you like and waste all the film to your hearts content I have more in the car," he said giving you full control of the camera. You nodded momentarily before smiling up at him. Without asking you slowly lifted the camera at him and he gave you a surprised look before smiling. He seemed...shy.
"Aw you look cute," you teased as you snapped a photo.
"I'm not used to being on the other end of the camera," he admitted and you frowned a bit.
"Really? I mean I think you make a great model," you cheekily let out and he burst into laughter.
"Ah, if you think so. I did give you full freedom with the camera," he added and you smiled.
"You did in fact," you said as you raised the camera at him again. He stuck his tongue out in defiance and you took another photo hoping that they would come out fine. After you took that photo you turned your attention to the small forested area behind him. It felt nice just being able to photograph whatever you wanted.
"Go sit on that rock," you directed and he gave you another shocked look.
"And suddenly she's a director," he chuckled and you playfully hit his arm. He did as you asked and walked over to a boulder that had been placed between two trees before he dusted it off and sat down. He looked up at you nervously and you smiled.
"Perfect," you said as you took another photo.
"Aren't you gonna photograph the sign?" He asked and you laughed.
"Yeah I know. You wouldn't understand the mind of uh an artist," you joked in an over exaggerated tone. He laughed again and thats when you took the next photo. You rushed a bit to get it and hoped it didn't come out shaky. After you looked down at the little dial that told you the very few photos you had left. "Ok, now I really gotta," you said as you waved him over. As he walked over you raised the camera again slyly and as you took another shot he raised his hand to cover the photo a bit. "Jed!" You exclaimed as he chuckled.
"Gotcha," he replied as he stood next to you. You directed your attention to the sign in front of you and raised the camera again. You tried to frame it perfectly and took a few shots before leaving some film for Jed. As you handed him the camera he shook his head and playfully ruffled your hair. He raised the camera and took a photo of the sign before turning back to you.
"Is that it?" You asked curiously and he nodded.
"It'll probably come out fine," he smiled and you couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed at how confident he had been with a single shot. Without word he lifted the camera and took a photo of you causing you to giggle.
"And here I was worrying about every photo I took," you said as he laughed.
"Come here," he said as he walked over to you. In a flash he had grabbed your face gently as he lifted your chin and went to kiss you. The second he did so he took a photo with his other hand and pulled away leaving you blushing. "I hope thats centered well," he said as he looked down at you.
"Yeah," you smiled back. When the two of you got back in the car you held the film camera in your hands.
"I could think of other photos we could take back at home," he said slyly and you gasped in fake shock.
"Jed!" You laughed again as you covered your face in embarrassment.
After you had finished what needed to be done Jed and you had driven home where he cooked dinner for you as you cleaned up a bit. He had agreed to develop the film for you at work the next day and turn it in for you. You had felt grateful and he said that he would have to teach you how to develop photos eventually but made a joke about how you would end up overexposing every photo in the room on accident somehow. You laughed at that before you agreed. You had been quite clumsy sometimes but you were glad he wanted to show you. It made you happy partaking in one of his interests, and especially with how patient he was with helping you. It was just another thing you appreciated about him and you smiled when he told you he would teach you more again.
