Mariah heard her uncle ask through the phone as she was packing up her suitcase. For the remainder of her stay in Vegas, she chose to take Paige up on her offer of staying with her.
She didn't want to hear LaMelo's mouth about her moving out of North Carolina. He'd try everything in his power to keep her there.
Mariah- Because you've made it very obvious that the only time you care about me is when the Ball family's involved or I'm in the hospital.
On the other side of the phone Dmo scoffed, feeling like that wasn't true at all.
Dmo- You're my neice, I care about you all the time. Not just when you're in the hospital.
This time it was Mari's turn to scoff. Of course he'd ignore the part where it really mattered.
Mariah- No, you don't care about me at all. When Lavar asked you to be Zo's manager you dropped everything, including the niece you claim to care for so much. You changed Darren, even if you don't think so. You left me with no parental figure during the worst years of my life. I called you the first time Melo hit me but your head was so far shoved up that family's ass you didn't believe me. It took Gelo telling you do you to finally do something.
She remembered talking to Darren that night in tears because the boy she loved so much had put his hands on her, and he had the nerve to brush it off and call her a liar saying "Melo would never".
That phone call was also a reason she never really told anyone, because the people she did tell never took her word. So she stopped trying.
Darren was silent on the other line, not really know what to say so Mari took that as a sign to hang up. She was proud of herself for not crying.
All of that emotion had been bottling up through the years and she'd finally released it. As if her luck couldn't get any better, her phone lit up with a text from Paige saying she was waiting down in the lobby.
She became so wrapped up in the conversation that she hadn't even noticed Melo come in from his side of the room holding a bag of chips.
Melo- Where you going?
He asked, plopping down on the bed. His presence had her jump harder than she ever had and he couldn't help but laugh.
Mariah- I'm gonna go stay with Paige.
Melo- Oh. Alright.
Mariah- Why?
Melo- Cause, you out here packing like the world's about to end. Had me thinking we were under attack.
This wasn't like him to make jokes if she told him she was leaving. It usually ended with her getting something thrown at her.
Mariah- You're not mad?
Melo- No, Paige is cool. Are you still gonna fly back with me?
Mariah- Of course.
She'd never turn down a free flight. The less money she has to spend, the better.
Mariah- What about the cougar? Is she coming?
Melo- Absoloutely not. She could walk back.
He was still pissed that Ana had gotten Mariah jumped. He didn't want to see her face at all.
Melo- Did you need help packing your stuff up in North Carolina?
Okay now she was really confused. She wasn't sure if she was talking to a clone or not.
Mariah- No..are you sure you're not mad?
Melo- Why would I be mad? It's not even that far. Plus I have a jet, I can come bother you whenever I want.
Oh, so nowww he says he can come see her whenever. But when she moved out here, he didn't even want to get his lazy ass up. Mari decided to keep these thoughts to herself, not knowing if Melo would snap.
Melo- Now go. I love you, don't die.
