Mari's phone took up the screen with said notification. Her eyes widened and she panicked.

Mariah- Uhh Jaden..Melo's calling me from instagram. Help me, what do I do?!

On the other side Jaden scoffed. What was the point of helping her if Mari already knew what she was going to do? Of course she would answer.

Jaden- The smart thing. Don't answer. Duh.

For once, Mariah chose her brain over her heart.

Mariah- Alright, I declined it.

Jaden's eyes widened. This was new. Usually she never listened to her. Mari knew Melo would be mad if she didn't answer, so she was prepared for all the messages he was sending. But she didn't expect to see this side of Melo.

Mari didn't know know wether to believe him or not. He could just be saying these things so she could go back to him. It's what he usually did.

Mariah was genuinely confused by his behavior. She expected to see the angry tweets about her not answering or at least him calling more. This was completely unexpected. The last time he talked to her "nicely" like this was when they were sixteen, and that said a lot.

Not knowing how to respond, she just left him on read and closed the conversation, not forgetting to screenshot it.

Jaden- What'd he text you?

She asked as Mariah pulled out of the Home Depot parking lot.

Mariah- He pretty much apologized and told me was seeing a counselor.

Jaden- You think he's being sincere or nah?

Mariah- Honestly, I don't know anymore. But he typed in full sentences, spelling out every word. He only does that when he's serious.

Jaden- He could just be lying to get you back.

Mariah- True. I just left him on read. I'll ask Gelo if he's actually seeing someone.

Jaden- I'm so freaking proud of you. A couple weeks ago you would've answered the phone, believing every word he says.

Mariah- Thank youu. I'm trying. I really am.

It was true, Mari was truly trying her best to be a stronger person. However she knew how long it'd take to fully return to the person she once was, and she was thankful that everyone around her was patient and kind of understanding.

Jaden- Are you seeing a therapist yet?

Out of everything, Mari speaking to a therapist was her main concern.

Mariah- I actually have an appointment with one on Wednesday.

Jaden gasped. Everything she wanted for her friend was finally happening. She'd gotten away from Melo, and decided to see a therapist, in less than a month.
